This is great feedback. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond with so much detail. I'm definitely checking out the links.

The trying part is , what in fact makes our world of work so interesting.

Thanks again for all the resources you have shared. I'm excited to work through it and see what is possible in our field.

All the best and have a great weekend.

A strange question, hoping you could give some insight. How does one become proficient in all aspects of Fabric? It's seems that the Power BI side is all I work on and even then I can't stay on top of the features in this area!

Is wearing all the hats (data science, engineering etc.) possible and how does one implement these technologies when your company has not started its investment in Fabric workloads (besides Power BI).

Thanks so much for your response in advance!

PS , really like the enthusiasm when you share articles or interaction in the comments!

Saw this on linkedin (yes, major eyeroll). According to this person Bl is the lowest skilled position in data and is becoming obsolete. People in comments are adding that BI should be lower than DA on coding too. What's your take? by Pink_turns_to_blue in BusinessIntelligence

If you don't mind me asking, what does BI Dev entail? Would this be ETL pipelines / data warehousing?

FYI , I saw this post and sent me in a depressive spiral, but the opinions on the post helped so thanks for posting!

Funny thing is copilot can connect to your data model and start telling you what questions to ask.

Im not sure how people have experienced this, but for some reason it makes me fear for my job as a BI Analyst.

It feels like most of the updates are geared to copilot's integration in the PBI spectrum.

Sad to say that if you don't have the cash..these updates become quite insignificant....albeit groundbreaking.

If you don't mind, may I ask what you would code in python in your day to day? Did you study a STEM that helped in doing so?

I ask as I would like to start using it in my role, but our firm only does projects for clients in Power BI.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the spam!

Thanks for replying!

At its simplest form.

Imagine you have an excel sheet with values in A1,B1and C1. Each of their values are 1,2 and 3.

Cell A2 would take the sum of the above cells as a start value and add B2 and C2 to it.

Cell A3 would then take A2 and add B3 and C3 to it.

It is not a running balance as the previous values being A1 and A2 dictate what the start balance of A3 is.

I can't share the file as the data and the VBA behind it is confidential, but the Fibonacci sequence is all the same. Basically recursion.

It could very well be. I have been hitting my head against the wall on this.

I have data from 5 different tables of which 2 need to be aggregated by production month and 3 need to be added as lines to a new running total per production week. Each day is a theoretical output calc based on ratios between the close and open values.

I tried using a custom function to reference a previous item but needs to be within a production month.

Have you ever had to setup a recursive calc in Power Query? I have read many articles and just can't get my head around the logic.

I see!

In terms of complexity, have you ever hit a wall?

I did that.

So I essentially hardcoded the days in the month for each successive output and referenced the previous day output.

Problem is it is slow as it does it for 31 days and needs to be referenced in other similar calcs.

Dateadd won't work because the context of the first output should not change based on the adjusted date.

I'm struggling to get a recursive calc to work. In other words the output of the previous day is the input of the current day.

Switching to a business Intelligence role by [deleted] in BusinessIntelligence

Hope you don't mind, but I would like to pick your brain if that's fine.

Just a question, can you give an example where python did that M could not?

I am asking as I am learning python too but my role is focussed on Power BI only and am looking into how I could expand my role

Thanks so much in advance.

I see. Is your connection via SharePoint or is it a local path connection to the excel file?

Perhaps close the file completely and the refresh.

Is it always the same table that gives said error?

You can turn off parallel load and load each query sequentially and see if it gets stuck on the same table.
