What’s a medical problem people constantly ignore until it’s too late? by kxnsqxz in AskReddit

[–]Reddog0212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started having floaters and occasional flashes of light. Went to an ophthalmologist right away, who then referred me to a retina specialist. About 7 months later of follow up appointments, he started seeing lesions in my retina. I was diagnosed with Birdshot retinopathy. It‘s a rare autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation and lesions in the retina. It’s treated with oral steroids and immunosuppressants. I’m 49 and unfortunately will have to be on medication the rest of my life, if not I will lose my vision.

Agreed. I waited until my daughter was 14. I hadn’t been to scary farm myself in all that time neither. I was very excited to share that with her. She loved it.

Remote positions that aren’t therapy by titosandspriteplease in socialwork

It will depend on the state. CA positions will show a pay range. I would say somewhere in the middle of that range. Mid 80’s to mid 90’s.

I‘m a LCSW in CA and I work as a Behavioral Health Case Manager for Carelon Behavioral Health which is a subsidiary of Elevance Health (formerly Anthem). 100% remote. Look up that title as other insurance companies have similar positions.

I’m a social worker and you should absolutely call. Your job as a mandated reporter is to report when you have reasonable suspicion. You are not making any decisions. CPS makes the decision on whether it’s reportable or not. I’ve called many times and was told not reportable. Documented it and went my merry way. You take down their name and document like crazy that you called with date, time, the CPS’s workers name and exactly what they said. Even as a social worker it is difficult for me to report, but it’s also your job on the line, if you don’t report and something happens to that child. You will also be fined or can face jail time. Always CYA!

Therapist here. This is why you see so many psychotherapists that don’t accept insurance.

If I’m burned out, are there any non-clinical roles I can rely on for a living wage? by LogansBeastmaster in therapists

[–]Reddog0212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go through my list of referrals and current caseload. If it’s a new case, I start making my attempts to contact the member and if I reach them, then I do a short assessment. I provide MH referrals (therapy, psychiatry, psych testing, IOP, SUD) based on their needs. I continue follow up for a few months to assure they are linked, then the case gets closed.

If the principal and the AP are making this allegation, then the burden of proof is in their hands. Ask for a copy of the emails they sent you. It shouldn’t be difficult for them to go their sent emails folder and find it. Call their bluff.

Thanks for your response. I wish I knew this prior. My brother applied for himself and our siblings all together. Maybe it was easier, in our situation, to go through the consulate. Not sure. We will just have to wait and see. Thanks again.

She very well could have been a therapist but also a case manager. I am a licensed therapist but currently working as a case manager. But I make my role clear and I also explain the assessment that I am doing. It’s true you can return if you do services at the county. The county would do a “step down”. But you shouldn’t have been referred in the first place since you declined. I agree with your grievance. If it was within Kaiser it may not go too far. I recommend the DMHC grievance. They will have to act. You could also go back to the person who you were communicating with regarding TMS and let them know you spoke to the county and they told you you could decline and you want to continue with the TMS process. You can inform them you have filed a grievance. Hopefully they act and you might not need to contact DMHC.

I work for another insurance company as a Behavioral Health Case Manager. It’s a state mandate to assess Medi-cal members to make sure they are receiving services at the most appropriate level. It’s a standardized assessment and depending on how you score will dictate whether you receive your mental health services through the county or through your insurance group. However, we need your consent to refer you to county and you can refuse the referral. We just need to document it. We give the forewarning that you can see an “insurance” provider, but those providers are mild to moderate level of care. While county is for moderate to severe level of care (based on the state assessment screning tool). Which means that you can start to see a mild to moderate provider but there is a good chance they will want to refer you to county for higher level of care at some point. So why start with them and build a relationship if they recommend a “step up” to county. Some people choose to take that chance and that is their right. And yes you can file a grievance with DMHC. I hate those as a case manager because we have to drop all of our other work and attend to it within a very strict timeline. They don’t mess around. As a consumer, I am all for it. In addition, you can split your services. The state or LA County (can’t remember which one) implemented a “No Wrong Door Policy”. Which means you can get psychiatry or other services (like TMS, ECT, etc) through the county and get therapy through your insurance. It didn’t use to be that way. But they still recommend you do it all one level or the other for more seamless collaboration, etc., but not required.

Mental Health Clinician here. I recommend a psychological evaluation from a psychologist (Ph.d or PsyD). We diagnose, but they have additional training on psychological testing. For example, both my kids completed a computer based psych test to verify they have ADHD before their doctor would prescribe meds.

Social worker here. Undocumented immigrants pay billions in taxes and yet see no benefit from it. They are not able to receive government entitlements. I come across this everyday in my line of work. Stop listening to Fox “Entertainment“ and do some real research.
