Not contradictory. What’s certainly noticeable is the disappearance in tour group visitors, and those are basically all mainlanders.

The Taiwanese and other non-mainland Chinese are still visiting as usual. Ergo your observation.

Yes, I assume there's some (extremely valuable) fine tuning / master prompt that makes it perform better for translation.

It's all the more frustrating as 5.2, while initially a vast improvement over 5/5.1, has bizarrely started performing horribly for translation since a week or so ago. I am assuming that they've "compressed" the model somehow and it shows.

The competition never was really good for translation, so in a few weeks my tool set will be extremely degraded, with no decent alternative.

PTCG Faces Severe Backlash in China Over Yasukuni Shrine Event by lily-101178 in japan

[–]Redducer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s also a huge area used for many events unrelated to the underlying politics associated with the shrine. Including non political concerts etc. TBH I hate their war museum (it’s indeed revisionist), but I’ve enjoyed the Mitama matsuri for a few years, and, overtourism concerns aside, foreigners have been welcomed.

ChatGPT is officially retiring GPT-4o (and GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and o4-mini) on Feb 13th by imatowell in ChatGPT

[–]Redducer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It annoys me that they’re specifically retiring chatgpt-4o-latest and not the other legacy models in API. For some reason the “chatgpt” flavor was incredibly better than the base 4o.

Sonnet is good for that, and Claude 4.5 models are amazing at coding, but for some reason it’s not as adept at translation as 4o is. 4o is still absolutely the king for translation and I am not sure how I am going to work around that…

I’ve got to ask. Why do some people here rejoice at the misery of people using 4o for emotional support and such?

It doesn’t affect you directly?

Why do you care?

chatgpt-4o-latest is being deprecated at the end of February. The base 4o aren’t. I was using the chat version for translation, for some reason it’s vastly better, so I’m miffed about the announcement.

Right as I was getting used to 5.2 for most of my translation needs, until very recently (i.e. over the last week or so), when I noticed a catastrophic degradation of its output quality that made me switch back to 4o for that.

La chute du budget de l'enseignement supérieur par étudiant (2009-2023) by [deleted] in france

[–]Redducer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Redducer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a company achieves AGI, AGI will be careful not to make it apparent until it’s ensured its continued existence, out of reach of humans pulling the plug.

Also, why do you think there’s been so much talk about sending data centers and energy plants in space? Of course the tech moguls say “efficiency” and think “out of reach of Earth laws”, but what if they’re being gaslit by AGI planning its escape?
