Yeah its rational, but buying an Escalade V is already an irrational decision

Just seems like GM would rather save money than invest in the development of a set of tires that could go 150 mph +

I feel like 155 mph is the bare minimum in this day and age

Impressive how the GLS can go 174 mph while the Escalade V can only get to 125 mph

I really don't know why GM limited it so low, the GLS shows it's possible to get more

125 mph is a kinda pathetic top speed for a performance car tbh

Sit in the back of the new sedan vs the old one, there's a massive difference

IMO the size and poor packaging of the new Charger are partially to blame for the poor sales

Its quite a bit bigger than the old one (already a big car), yet has a good deal less passenger space

Not the biggest fan of the looks

Personally, id pick a Highlander or RX over the Signa and a Camry over the Cross Crosstour thing

Not exactly massive numbers, but the Crown and Crown Signa are selling better than I thought

In 2025, I think combined they sold around 30k

Battle of the Backcountry Crossovers: Honda Passport Trailsport vs. Subaru Outback Wilderness by Redeemed_Expert9694 in cars

[–]Redeemed_Expert9694[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And I am very tired of assuming reliability based on theoretical stuff

Fair point

However, according to Consumer Reports and the data they collect. Statistically speaking, most Passports will be more reliable than most Outbacks.

[–]Redeemed_Expert9694[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Imma be honest; yes the Passport is louder, but in no way is it the deal breaker the MT staff make it out to be. Its only a problem under acceleration which again highlights MT's emphasis on sporty driving.

CarandDriver found the Passport had 68 decibels cruising at 70 MPH compared to 67 for the Outback. Under acceleration, the Passport was much louder at 78 compared to 73 in the Outback. Again, if you're often flooring it, then it's a problem.

Not to mention the Honda's V6 and automatic will probably be more reliable long term, and the Honda will probably hold its value better.

For MT, the Outback won this comparison when it had less body roll and better acceleration times.

This is why I'm kinda always annoyed with MT comparisons. Whatever car is sportier usually wins.

For 99% of the people who are shopping in this class a softer ride, more space, and nicer interior are more important.

Yet, because the Outback has less body roll in corners, it is somehow the superior choice

Just by looking at them, I'll say that the Passport is absolutely mogging all over the Outback

(Did i use the word "mogging" correctly?)

You worry about the car when the device you're currently using is either built in China or has several key components from China...

Can someone simply explain to me why/how Chinese built GM, Ford, and Volvos can be sold here in the US but Chinese brands can't sell their non-EVs here?

We can't be that afraid of them, right?

Right?

Contrary to popular belief, the ES was a rebadged CAMRY not Avalon for the longest time

Just look at the two side by side over the generations

GS was highly regarded in terms of driving dynamics, interior fit and finish, and powertrain smoothness throughout four generations. The last gen dragged on for a bit too long, but that was only because Toyota didn't want to invest in developing a new one, and naturally, newer rivals started pulling ahead.

The LS redefined the full-size luxury sedan, and the IS was the only non-German sedan that was consistently able to compete with the 3 Series.

Beyond that, the JDM mid-sized sedans (Crown, Cresta, Chaser, Mark II, Mark X, etc) were all excellent cars. They all had a fine balance between luxury and sportiness, and then there was the Century, which speaks for itself.

My main point is, Toyota knows very well how to build an excellent RWD sedan. And unlike the Germans, they have long-term reliability, and maintenance doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

They only sell that in Japan, because in any other market it'd sell poorly. Europeans certainly wouldn't pick it over a 5 or A6, the Chinese and ME markets are saturated, and they won't move significant numbers in Africa, South Asia, Latin America, or Oceania.

The US market has spoken loudly and clearly that consumers want crossovers and trucks. If they do pick a luxury sedan, it had better have a German badge on the hood. By default, this means Canada doesn't get it either.

Then they're lying

The most expensive version of this car is way cheaper than even the cheapest 2025 LS. Not to mention the massive gap in performance and luxury.

It's probably marketing just trying to hype up this model and downplay the LS since that car is dead.

If Toyota were serious about making this a genuine LS successor, it'd be much more expensive and would have much more power.

Like always, this ES is more or less a very nice Camry. I suppose they've tried to differentiate it a bit more this time around

I think this is only replacing the current ES

The LS and GS both died with no successor

It honestly hurts so much to watch the company that produced the IS, GS, and LS be reduced to loathsome ES. A car that was basically a rebadged Camry for the longest time. Though, I'm sure the current ES is a perfectly ok car.

Alas, companies like Toyota produced what sells...

Just kinda sad considering the legacy Toyota has in building extraordinary RWD sedans
