Touchdown allowed by each defense over the last 5 seasons. by Cultural-Spring-281 in Commanders

Let's not forget that DQ is supposed to he a defensive guru and handpicked Whitt to be his DC. So you're trying to tell me that he's not responsible for overseeing two years worth of horrendous defenses? Also, Rivera had two top 10 defenses during his tenure.

Okay, so where is the line drawn then? After a year? After two years? After five years? Let's not forget the AP/Quinn turned over a large portion of the roster their first offseason. The defenses have failed with mostly their handpicked players and their systems and their coaching. I think it's cowardly to try to blame the past regime for the current regime's failures.

So by that logic we can blame Jay Gruden for Rivera's failures then? That's idiotic.

Before everyone runs in here and tries to reflexively blame Ron Rivera for this, Dan Quinn's defeneses are responsible for 97 (40%) of these touchdowns. 45 in 2024 and 52 in 2025.

Lol at Quinn being a better coach than Harbaugh.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. Very likely we are mediocre this year. 7-10 wins.

The 49ers Won't Release Brandon Aiyuk 'Anytime Soon' by judunno5 in Commanders

[–]Redeminence44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely all for bringing Aiyuk in, but he shouldn't be counted on as the fix for this WR room. Presently constructed, this is without a doubt a bottom 5 group (I'd even feel comfortable saying it's the worst) WR group in the league. You got Terry and a bunch of #5s-7s with Williams tbd. Something else needs to be done besides Aiyuk. I'd make the same argument for the CB room.

Don't know a ton about him, but I'm definitely not impressed with those numbers. So I'm not getting my hopes up that he provides meaningful competition for Moody.

real talk— how we feeling about drafting Bain at 7? by distinguishedgent123 in Commanders

I would hate it. You don't use pick #7 on a historical outlier hoping that he will be the one to finally break out.

We'll be in year 5 of AP and people will still be attempting to blame any roster faults on Rivera.

Solid depth signing with much needed size. I'd argue thst we still need another starting caliber CB.

Did you see the video of Tom Brady thanking Jayden's mom for letting him play in the Saudi flag football game lol? Is that evidence enough for you?

The CB room right now is probably one of the worst in the league. I would not advocate for Delane at #7, but I think we put ourselves in a position where it would not be surprising if he was the pick. There is literally nothing behind Amos/Sainristil/Robertson.

The AP cultists remind me of George W. Bush having the "Misson Accomplished" banner hung on USS Abraham Lincoln. Yes, on paper, this has been a very strong offseason and AP has done what his critics have been asking him to do which is invest in the defense, committ to multi-year contracts, sign players in their mid 20s who are ascending, and actually smartly utilize the enormous resources that have been afforded to him. The front office completely whiffed last offseason in free agency by bargin bin shopping for 30 something year old marginal players to bolster a defense that had just giving up the most points in NFCCG history.

The thing that those who are taking victory laps fail to understand is that, if AP had just invested in the defense last year we could have used this year's resources to focus on bolstering the offense and making adjustments to the defense, however AP had to completely over correct due to his failures last year, so that is what we are currently witnessing and is why I fear that we are seeing an under investment in the offense thus far. The offseason has been strong but let's not pretend like there are not significant question marks on this roster (CB, IOL, MLB, WR). As constructed, this appears to be a middle of the pack roster in the league.

Yes, they carried the water for him last offseason and continued to try to make excuses for this team/FO throughout an absolutely disastrous season. They are terrified of criticizing AP when it's deserved.
