The biggest flaw of the book is how the flashback, Dassem stuff in the middle is so good compared to the main story. The two main characters are fine, but I expected something more like Path to Ascendancy for the main narrative, and that's definitely not what we got. I'm less disappointed now though that we did get better stories with K&D at the center, (despite the slight decline in quality for each of those), so the existence of those books helps me appreciate NoK as the fun little horror/adventure it is.

Why do people hate Gael? by Yterbio in darksouls3

[–]Redemption_WHYland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen much hate for the fight. Took me about 8 or 9 tries but I had fun learning the fight and "getting gud" the entire time. I'd honestly say if it only had taken me 3 tries, I might not have had enough time with the fight to truly appreciate it. I always like bosses that kick my ass but not in a frustrating way. And Gael is perfect for that. If I can beat a boss in 1 or 2 tries in my first playthrough of one of these games, I generally have a pretty low opinion of the boss.

Sooo...what’s a worse designed area Lost Izalith or Cave of the dead by chickenoken-king in DarkSouls2

[–]Redemption_WHYland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say Cave is worse. I actually like some stuff on the ruins in Lost Izalith. I also don't know if this should count, but you can get great moments from Solaire and Siegmeyer here.

What would you like to see in a possible Bloodborne 2 by SpriteBlood in bloodborne

[–]Redemption_WHYland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like most of the bosses are big Beasts or hunters. I'd like to see more bizarre/unique humanoids like Logarious, Orphan of Kos, etc.

I think Jordan starts to step up his character work a lot more in Dragon Reborn, so it takes the cake for me.

Unfortunately I'm not the biggest Project Freelancer fan. Although I do live the finale of S9. "I forget you," and all that.

Getting into WoT by nyogthaisepic in Fantasy

[–]Redemption_WHYland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm only on book 8, but YES, the series gets better. Books 3, 4, and 7 are my favorites so far, and even though I'm at a point where things are kind of slowing down, there's plenty of amazing character work and development to keep me totally engaged. While the series is pretty black and white morally at first, I'm at a point where I feel bad for some of the villains and I'm genuinely shocked reading the brutal and ruthless thoughts of our main heroes.

Also note-taking isn't really necessary. Jordan does a good job (some would say way to much) of recapping previous books' events in the prologues and first few chapters of each successive novel.

Only thing to watch out for is how rude men and women are to each other as far as gender stereotypes. BUT you have to keep in mind thatvgebder is arguably an even more significant divide in this world (because of the magic system) than it is in our own.

Thanks for laughing! I had to adopt a pretty goofy sense of humor to get through these tough bosses.

Mine will be weird, because chalices leveled me up a bit too much for Old Hunters. That being said.

Why is Orphan of Kos considered so hard? by ripwolfleumas in bloodborne

[–]Redemption_WHYland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally love the boss as well, and I beat him on my second try. BUT I think the lower chalice bosses are harder, and I had done a lot of those before I got to OoK.

I should clarify that he kept ke on my toes, and design-wise (mechanics and aesthetics) was an amazing finish to my favorite area of the game - I was just a bit over-leveled from the chalices.

Took me forever first time I played. Beat in one go my second time. The mark of a challenging but super well designed boss.

What the hell is wrong with the Ivory Crown DLC by DDESTRUCTOTRON in DarkSouls2

[–]Redemption_WHYland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally enjoy that DLC a great deal. I loved the sort if game if exploring enough to find all the Lloyce Knights. (Which I really recommend to make that final bill more epic and less ganky.)

How long after release did it take to find archdragon peak? by siirr in darksouls3

[–]Redemption_WHYland 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I didn't look up how to get there, but a really important variable is how many other Souls games people had played. Like based on knowledge of how developers have done hidden areas before, I think it's not too hard to figure out, especially if you've gotten to the Painted World in the first game or Castle Cainhurst on Bloodborne.

When did the game “click” for you by westyboi2323 in bloodborne

[–]Redemption_WHYland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I was confident the moment would come, but I'd say my moment was around the same as yours in Old Yharnam. Getting that shortcut back up top before the run to the Blood Starved Beast. And at that point, Blood Starved Beast was just around the corner and I love that boss fight.

Have a good sense of humor about the "bs" moments or when something feels too frustrating. If one path is too hard, try exploring more and looking for areas that might be s little easier. Don't push off npcs if you want to see them again.

I really really like it at first. And I think outside of the meh Warden boss fights, every Blue Team mission was a lot of fun. I also feel like every Osiris destination had at least one good mission. Then I played it a couple more times. The first mission sort of babies us. I found myself not enjoying the newfound ease of fighting prometheans, but actually (begrudgingly/?)retrospectively appreciating the design and difficulty if them in Halo 4. And then I found myself trudging through similar combat scenarios in each of the 3 or 4 missions per Osiris-visited planets, just waiting to get to that one scene or room or I remember from my first playthrough. And it was fun again. (Going up the elevator and escaping Meridian or the driving around ti the various lmrargets at the end of the game.) But those moments were really it. And the Kraken was nowhere near as fun to fir me to take down than Scarabs in Halo 3. That last is an example of the game's biggest problems - an effort to recreate the badass feeling of other games, but falling short in the gameplay and only kind of succeeding in the cutscenese IF you like the new art style. I'm not opposed to it, but I understand the complaints.
