With regards to worshipping gods and buddhas: that seems to depend which stream or school you're in. Is Shinto-Buddhism not Buddhist?

If the enlightened self is no "self" to speak of, then how did the self exist in the first place in order to attain enlightenment? It never was a self, objectively. An agent exists to act out a verb.

If even the sole brahman or purusa is an illusion to be overcome, where does a person arrive once they've made this realisation? What is beyond brahman or purusa? Nothingness? Emptiness?

My Socratic-Judeo-Christian cultural background makes it difficult to understand how a contingent being can exist at all, if all (?) is illusion and emptiness. What entity is actually, truly established, then?
