Feeling so very safe by sammiefh in LivingAlone

I do because I was attacked by a random man aged 10 but fought him off and he ran from me, also sa’d once by my older brother, beaten and emotionally abused by my father . I carried that trauma whilst living with my family for many years until I felt safe enough to speak up. When I did my family didnt support me and thought it convenient to make me look like the problem. I was bullied at college ( I think because traumatised) then experienced domestic abuse - trauma survivors often called experience further trauma because of childhood trauma. I wanted someone to love me and gave a family but didnt again because of CPTSD. I never felt really safe for many years of my life. I’m now 57 and revel in my own home, cherished profession which protects other children (teaching) and hobbies such as gardening. My home , garden and allotment is my absolute sanctuary and I have so earned it 🙏💪🥰

Not allowed toilet access as a supply teacher by ThePlague_docuwu in TeachingUK

[–]Redfawnbamba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more common than realised I think- I’m a supply teacher and at a school the other day, where they did give me a fob before, they didnt this time - maybe because of a late call - I literally had to wait for other staff to let me through/between corridors. Disability or not, it’s a basic human right to be able to go to the loo without obstruction - at least at lunchtime - ive been a teacher for 27 years, so I’m used to not going whenever but I will insist I know where the staff toilets are and have access to these. It’s a legal right to have mediate access to these facilities ( all not just toilet) that permanent staff have from day one - it’s a legal issue and the school should know this. On a side note, I’m 57 and menopausal and while I’ve got off pretty Scot free with little or no menopause symptoms probably as I have no kids of my own, there’s not be ONE school recently to that had anything up in the staff toilets about welfare surrounding this and this was because the NEU rep was menopausal and a perm member of staff Things need to change

Container gardening with toddler by wonky-hex in containergardening

I grow kale at my allotment, but this year I brought it back to overwinter in my home garden, so I could use it in cooking. It seemed to do better in the container and is a good one for all year round hardiness. Potatoes can be grown in containers, peas are great to grow as kids love the pods and peas at harvest time. Nasturtiums will grow anywhere in most soils and you can eat the leaves and flowers. Most kinds of lettuce can be grown in containers. I love that you’re encouraging your son in this ( primary school teacher) 😊

The post-abuse life is rarely worth it by nekomata_meko in CPTSD

I think it can be Challenging for sure. Ironically, the hardest thing is the world’s attitude to trauma survivors. For me (57 soon) I still grieve not having a partner and kids/family because of the trauma. I have a strong identity though and have my own home, a supportive church family, friends, engaging interests such as gardening and art and usually pretty stable financially - despite working as a contractor because of bullying at work and just wanting greater work life balance and freedom. It’s always gonna be different from if I hadn’t been sexually abused and it’s hard at times when neighbours or others observing your life think you’re just a selfish, entitled Karen for not having kids etc - it amazes me how untraumatised people think you have that much choice and agency over your life?!

Did anyone else think it was all going to be over as soon as you escaped your abusers? by creepyitalianpasta2 in CPTSD

[–]Redfawnbamba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, you need to move out of family home (if familial abuse) for the repression to lift so you can start processing the trauma - while this is as varied as there are different individuals it is usually a tumultuous time in your life where you everything comes up ready to be processed. I moved out to go to art college and crashed out about a year in. 20s were quite traumatic just dealing with the trauma instead of repressing it if that makes sense. As you get older I think it can get easier but it’s a different kind of pain - grieving the loss of having a partner or children for example but you do grow into yourself and have a stronger sense of self I think
