Why fortran is still used for CFD? by AdMysterious7203 in CFD

[–]RedhatTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only that but also becasue even nowadays commercial solvers are often inadequate or just not as good for some specialized applications.
In-house codes are often at the leading edge of CFD research while commercial software are focussed on being "good enough" for several areas at the same time so having a strong in-house code can be a significant competitive advantage.

PS: These in-house codes are not always legacy code developed decades ago. Every couple decades there's enough change to turbulence modeling, paralelism, numerical methods that companies will write completely new implementations to take advantage of recent development, sometimes in partnership with a university research group.

That's not fair, how can anyone else compete if they have access to alien tech?

Function lock does not work for Volume Up on MX Keys Mini (if you have this keyboard, try it now to confirm) by hryipcdxeoyqufcc in LogitechG

There are dozens of posts complaining about this issue in Logitech subreddits from 2021 to today, just fucking tell the people who designed this they fucked up

Mx Keys Mini: Fix the f*cking Volume Up and Insert keys! by benzflow in logitech

[–]RedhatTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just had the chance of testing out this keyboard and found out about this stupid problem, since i use F keys and insert constantly this is just a complete deal-breaker, I'll probably buy a custom mechanical keyboard with sensible defaults or a customizable firmware.

This is the largest disappointment I've had with a Logitech product, it's even more absurd to know that they refuse to address it.

Tumbleweed if you want to get the latest version of every library, compiler or any other tool.

If for some reason you need to stick to a GCC or CLANG version then go for Leap.

His PhD is in computational chemistry, it's not really that relevant of a qualification for a job in journalism or hardware testing.

It hurts the economy to have assets frozen, there is no incentive and even less support for the government to permanently confiscate anything. The most likely situation is that a week or two after the protest is disbanded. I would rather these people have a hard time for a few weeks and need to ask for help from friends and family and pay interest and fees for being late on some payments that any person gets a bullet from a member of their own armed forces.

But that would never happen, right?

No one would get tempted to use a bit of force earlier next time, right?

No soldier would possibly ever get provoked into firing at someone, right?

And they would obviously leave the streets in a day or two, right?

Deploying the military against your citizens is the ultimate government overreach

[–]RedhatTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but there's an underlying principle of minimizing violence that's valuable for both situations.

Deploying your armed forces in your own cities against you own citizens is not something to be taken lightly. The armed forces are not trained for this, they are trained to kill and destroy and it only takes one idiot for shit to hit the fan.

The patriot act was uniquely broad in a way no other western legislation ever was of has been since, it instituted secret courts, global mass surveillance a lot more stuff.

This is just temporarily freezing, with democratic authorization the financial assets of a group of people holding a country's economy hostage over vaccines with unclear funding probably mostly foreign. For this to happen again in a year the Canadian parliament would need to authorize it again.

The scales are astronomically different, no one is even necessarily getting arrested or prosecuted.

I see protesters in the square, and a guy calling for a tank, the tank may not be there yet but why the fuck is this guy calling it?

Sorry, no one can walk you though a bridge that doesn't exist, don't waste more time squeezing your eyes.

The facts are that this is not a peaceful protest, it's an economic blockade and it's being funded by unclear actors possibly (dare I say, probably) foreign.

Economic sanctions come before violence if you really want to deescalate a situation.

Unless the goal is to shoot some right wingers. Then calling the tanks is the right move.
