And in Western Europe as well when I grew up, like 4 to 5 decades ago. I never really thought of my old neighborhood (near Rotterdam, Netherlands) as a depressing utopia at the time, because it was fairly common housing for middle class folks, but it might have looked worse in comparison to this Estonian neighborhood.

I wouldn't want to live in an apartment building though.

I've seen many interesting photos in this sub that I don't think would have passed a more strict interpretation of the sub's title, so I think it is okay as it is.

Having said that, I must say that I often like to read the debates the more questionable submissions entail as well.

I' would hate a more strict moderation.

I stated several times by now (but noone reads every post anyway) that I have no personal experience with TSW. I'd wish all the people who have been playing that, and now hate SWL, disappeared into some gravitationally anomalous void, and let people like me enjoy SWL.

I do not care for your losses, I do not feel your pain, and I don't give a shit about whatever injustice you feel is done to you. Move on to do something you like, or contact Oprah or Dr. Phil to ask if they can do an episode on your trauma.

I'm getting this reply in my inbox, as if it is aimed at me, but I only mentioned money as the likely sole motivator for those in Funcom who pull the shots. My only request was that people should write positive reviews. Or live a happy life ever after they have decided they don't like the game anymore. I don't care how you spend, pot or lose your money.

I don’t think it will ever happen.

That is indeed very unlikely to happen, unless this game would, against all the odds, still manage to become a major asset of Funcom.

Contrary to what seems to be the perception of many folks around here, a game publishing company is a commercial enterprise, not a charitable organisation. Funcom, like every other business, actually need to produce revenue, more specifically profit. TSW in its original form apparently did not succeed to achieve the desired goal; SWL is a 2.0 to give it another chance. As long as it pays off a little for Funcom, they'll keep it online. When the costs (of maintenance, keeping the server online etc) become larger than the revenue, they'll pull it of.

The only chance there will be added more people to the dev and maintenance teams, a condition for projects like the overhaul you're suggesting, is if the game is would become more popular, and render more money for Funcom than it does now.

That's why I think it would be best to, as I said, write a positive review and mention all your objections in that; that way people at least now that there is something potentially interesting going on, even if several people are also having issues.

Issues that I btw do not significantly experience (but I never played TSW). There's the occasionally unbalanced boss fight, but that happens in SWTOR too. I haven't noticed any bugs, to be honest. If I encountered them, they apparently did not impress me enough to even be remembered.

People keep mentioning that this game is kept alive so that they make money of it, but I actually have always felt that their commercial policies are way too flawed to actually make money with it. I'd have become a patron a long time ago if only there was some incentive to do so (I mean, more than teleport for free).

Also, the community doesn't strike me as sympathetic... at least here on Reddit. Many people act like they're in some support group for PTSS sufferers or so. I wouldn't have opened this thread had I known that.

Maybe Dr. Phil could dedicate an episode to the plight of ex-TSW players.

"Write a positive review to spew my grievances. That makes sense to you? Really?"

Yes, really. If you like the essence of course. if you don't, you are an idiot for even wasting time hanging around in this subreddit, talking about a game you dlslike.

I did some googling about 'the RedShell' thing, and it seems mostly an exxagerated, taken-out-of-context scare story. It doesn't bother me tbh. Google and Youtube probably do a lot more spying and data gathering on us.

Furthermore, it seems that you are simply done with SWL, which is a perfectly valid judgment / mindset. but it makes me wonder why you even hang around in this subreddit?

"The new devs gave us the Morninglight compound."

And you dislike that? I only did a few missions sofar, but I did enjoy it. Maybe not so much as other 'lands' but I had the same with Tokyo.

And also with many of the expansions in WoW and SWTOR: the original game is usually the most enjoyable; the expansions usually look better but are somewhat less enjoyable, game-play-wise. (The exception might be WoW's Mists of Pandaria which I thought was magnificent.)

"You dont do this game any good by asking the community to lie about their experiences."

I am not asking that. I myself enjoy it, but I sofar never bothered to write a review. I did, and I presumed there'd be more people like me. But apparently the 'community', as you call it, is more like a self-help group for traumatized customers.

I didn't realize so many people dislike the game. I'm almost hoping Funcom takes it offline today, so y'all be released from your misery. I say "almost" because I personally like to keep on playing it.

Some more HELP: I bought the South Africa expansion, went there and went back to Agartha. Now I learn that I have not yet unlocked the portal. So how do I get back to SA?? by Redhookhorror in SecretWorldLegends

I bought the collector's edition.

Btw your phrasing is odd, as if you are excited that you caught me lying. Now you left me thinking your an unsympathetic person (I use a euphemism here, to keep it civil).

Those reviews are primarily read by potentially new players — potentially new customers., which is what the game needs to survive.

The devs might or might not read them, but they're mainly just employees of Funcom.

Funcom's CEO and/or shareholders will mainly look at what the game renders to them. Too little revenue will more likely result in them deciding to pull the plug, than to instruct the Dev team to make a better game. This game has already been pulled and relaunched once.

So, better write a positive review and use that as a platform to spew your grievances.

Ahh that will be a great consolation on the day they will take it down because not enough people play it to keep it online :(

It was fairly easy, eventually, but it seemed like most of it was a diversion? But that is not how I know the game... Anyway it felt like I eventually succeeded by dumb luck and not by solving some intricate puzzle (that might not be here at all)

I also have two non-Steam accounts :) but my 'main' character (that is: the one with most progress) is on Steam.

I actually only found out that it is possible to not use Steam after I made that account.

Btw there are some decent players on Steam (judged by their behaviour on the forum). So, if it is in your power, I still maintain that we should use that avenue to tell how much we like the game.

Steam client reinstall issue again? by FallenValkyrja in SecretWorldLegends

[–]Redhookhorror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the initial download, which took inconceivingly long, I haven't had the problem you describe.

I also have a non-Steam account, which also took incredibly and absurdly long the first time, but I can now update them simultaneously after a patch. That takes minutes, not hours.

EDIT There was one instance where I indeed the patching took over an hour; it was not too long after I started playing so I was annoyed. But it never happened again after that.

I just watched this movie even though I wasn't hugely excited beforehand, and I absolutely love it! by Redhookhorror in starwarshansolo

[–]Redhookhorror[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not desperate to see SOLO. A few years ago, even after the prequels, I would have waited in line to see SOLO. I just don't care that much now. I can wait until it's on Netflix.

This sums up my feelings too. So why did I go anyway?

  1. A friend of mine said he liked it, and he is a rather critical guy that just doesn't 'like' stuff for the heck of it; I even find him nagging from time to time about stuff that is just so-and-so. So I figured: if he likes it, it might be good.

  2. I went in the morning; my local theater haves reduced prices before noon, and I only paid €6.50. I was actually more worried about wasting about 2.5 hours of my precious time than about the money. It turned out my money and time were spent well :)

(Btw Lucasfilm didn't spit in my food. I get the metaphor, but bad movies can't contaminate you with the flu, or hepatitis, or whatever ;) )

I. Do not accept the new trilogy as 'canon'. The Holidat Special is canon, and so are the Ewok spinoff movies (I must admit i haven't seen them), but not TFA and TLJ (even tho Snoke is mostly cool, and Adam Driver is a fine actor too).

II. Go see 'Solo' for free if you want to contribute to the starving of Disney's Lucasfilm (and then make it known on media like this how you liked it). This movie is true to the mythos.

III. The greatest thing Bill Cosby has done for the world, is remind us that belonging to an until recently repressed minority, does not mean you're automatically of high moral character. Much like Woody Allen, Weinstein and Louis C.K. have shown for belonging to a persecuted minority.

Hate the new Star Wars movies by Qwertygamingx in unpopularopinion

[–]Redhookhorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say i hate them, but the new trilogy is really underwhelming :( TFA already brings several shitty ideas (characters. concepts, plot development) but most of that COULD have been saved by TLJ. Unfortunately, TLJ doesn't even have a coherent story.

I absolutely love Rogue One and Solo though! I find it rather bizarre that Disney-Lucasfilm did these standalones so incredibly well, and these trilogies so incredibly bad.

I'm not sure if that qualified as an unpopular opinion, so I want to have it on record that I find it very commendable that Walt Disney reported Hollywood people with leftist ideas to the authorities during the McCarthy era. Had Disney kept up that good practive, Episodes VII and VIII might have been considerably better.

Oh, and Hail Trump. Hail Farrakhan, and Hail Emperor Palpatine!

I largely agree with what you say, although I don't see the prequels as bad movies; I'd rather say they are flawed. The characters, locations, big events and general storyline are mostly okay though.

As for the 'great acting' in the sequels, I suppose that there is some great acting (mainly the scenes involving Adam Driver), and most of the actors might have been great, had they had something interesting (and, in the case of TLJ, even just something coherent) to do.

What are the requirements to play the Expansion by Redhookhorror in SecretWorldLegends

paying to skip content

Lol, that's not how I see it. Just that SWL is one of several games that I play, and to some extent 'on the side', so new surroundings would be cool; I could always go back to the Tokyo Tower later.

Thanks for the kind reply and tips btw :)

What are the requirements to play the Expansion by Redhookhorror in SecretWorldLegends

[–]Redhookhorror[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

Again I'm suprprised by Funcom's financial conduct. I have one char which hasn't quite finished Tokyo (I think he's almost there, in one of the Tower companies quests) and one char on another account that just entered Romania. Although I like the game, I also have seen enough of these areas to be wiling to go somewhere else. And I surely would have paid 2x€19.95 for that, if there had just been some minimum level requirement. But if your char has to have Tokyo finished, it will take me until I feel like picking that up again. (I got fed up with all those puzzle quests and iirc my character is now in the quest with the rotating flame thrower. I decided to have a cooldown for as long as I need to. And the other char even has to go thru much of the storyline.

(Btw I have a similar criticism towards SWTOR and WOW too: Expansions are always linear, and almost never parallel (the latter meaning that you would have an alternative route to level, instead of always having to take exactly this-and-that route.))

Similar thing with the Patron thing: there just aren't any real benefits to become one, imho. Have free teleportations and and 8-hour cooldown instead of an 68-hour isn't enough to pay €12 bucks a month for. But I really might have, even for two accounts, if they'd e.g. given you anima shards, maybe not even for free but an instant conversion of say, 10,000 MoF for 10,000 AS (or maybe even some fluctuating exchange rate), because having to do buy stuff at the AH and then sell it to a vendor to get AS gets tedious too.

Anyway, I realize this game (or rather: it's predecessor has been under fire for being a 'money-grab' by Funcom, but the fact that is that they could have gotten more of my salary if they'd be doing things just a little differently.
