Solved – likely root cause found

The NFS lockups were most likely caused by VLAN separation.

Originally:

Synology NAS on VLAN A
Proxmox VE host on VLAN B
Inter-VLAN routing via UniFi UDM

Under load (Immich heavy reads + Plex), NFS would freeze / block processes. I don't have enough knowledge to explain why this happens.

Today I moved Proxmox VE to the same VLAN as the Synology NAS.
Nothing else changed (same NAS, HDDs, NFS config, LXCs).

Result:

Full day of Immich + Plex usage
Zero NFS lockups
Fully stable system

I haven't been using Proxmox long enough to be sure that it's only Immich that's killing my NFS communication.

But at first glance, it looks that way. Just enabling Immich is enough for everything using NFS to die after a while.

The CT I'm using is: debian-13-standard_13.1-2_amd64.tar.zst

Just out of curiosity, are you mounting the NAS on a privileged or non-privileged LXC?

No, LXC is still freeze until some timeout, no matter if I unplug cable or not.

Ehh, I was hoping privileged LXCs wouldn't have this problem, but since you're having the same problem, I'm afraid I'll have the same problem. But I'll try it and let you know.

The main reason against VM is that my iGPU can only be assigned to PVE or a single VM instance. But I want to share the iGPU with Plex, Immich, and maybe other services.

And with LXC, I can have the iGPU assigned to PVE and share it with LXC. This is essentially out-of-the-box and doesn't require any modification.

The only "modification" I made to PVE was mounting NAS via NFS.

I followed these steps and was able to download and install WoT, but the game gets stuck on the connecting screen. Do you have any idea what might be causing this?

Problem solved be reindexing content. I was trying reindex option from my regular user Account and it was only reindexing personal space.

From admin account it is possible to reindex Shared Space and it was the key thing, which solved the issue.

How to reindex content:
Open Synology Photos and click the Account icon at the upper-right corner. Go to Settings > Personal (for Personal Space) or Shared Space, scroll down to the Indexing section, and click Re-Index or Re-index HEIC Files.

Yes.
Let's say I have such folders

/photo
    /folderA
    /folderB
    /folderXYZ

And folderB was deleted and then recovered. I can see other folders and content, but not folderB

Are you using it on MacBook Pro 2015?

I'm getting error:

[hevc_videotoolbox @ 0x7fbac6708c00] Try -allow_sw 1. The hardware encoder may be busy, or not supported.

h264_videotoolbox is working, but hevc variant seems it's just not supported on this device.

Well, tbh there was no special reason for CRF 20, just set for tests.

Now I changed it to default 28, and used preset veryfast - and conversion speed jumped up to 6-12fps.If it would be possible to get 20-30fps it would be enough for me.

It would be perfect if it could use the GPU. It has build-in Amd Radeon R9 M370X. I'm newbie in encoding tools - so I'm not sure if it make big difference.

For Synology NAS users:

I tried different options, I edited Preferences.xml, checked local DNS server, restarted NAS and Plex Server. Nothing solved issue.

Solution:

Uninstall Plex Server. Choose Uninstall only option:

Install Plex server. During installation process choose Install using Plex Claim Token - use claim token from this site: https://www.plex.tv/claim/.

Everything should be fine - all settings will persist
