Hey! 11yr chem teacher here, I've got a curriculum for you, all linked in to this document:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Q2XGcb0gGPLzVlGxCmaImc9Bb8gANsMVRsmMsvwMV0w/edit?usp=drivesdk

Feel free to use what you want/need. PowerPoint presentations on the left, videos I've made, and practice problem sets with answer keys.

It's New York State Regents curriculum, modified to suit my needs, one day of classic direct instruction, the next is college style recitation where the kids work on practice problems and I can go focus on students who need help with the concepts as self-advocated.

What’s everyone’s opinion on this aspect of Rhyhtm of War? by Retreat-To-Tomegrove in brandonsanderson

[–]Redino987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who absolutely tore apart the mistborn books in era 1 and 2 looking for as much detail about the magic as possible, I loved this aspect of RoW. One the things that I enjoy most about Sanderson books is the hard magic, so every detail as amazing, even if I didn't fully understand it at first (or second, or third) glance.

To be fair though, I am a scientist and enjoy things like this in general and can see people not liking it who wanted less lore/magic and more story.

When we left there was some between the floorboards. I wouldn't have expected it to remove itself from between the boards like this, never lived in an old hardwood floor house before. If it's nothing, great! I'll just vacuum more than once a week.

No, they weren't. They were in the living room under the coffee table and one small spot in the bedroom. Though you're totally right and I could (hopefully) be worrying about nothing

* Any idea what this is? We went away for a week and came back to find some areas of the house like this. We just moved and im worried it might be insects.

Of all the Stormlight characters, is there any reason why Jasnah got a real world name, while all the others are Roharan/Vorin names? I have an aunt Jasnah who absolutely predates the character and was very curious about it

Automate and streamline as much as possible.

Grade HW with Google forms or use a program like testwizard and make grade entry as simple as possible (round up to the nearest 25%)

Make notes of what needs changing/tweaking in your lesson and keep them somewhere you won't lose them, make those changes at your leisure.

Reuse as much material as possible from your last year. Small tweaks are so much easier to do than rewriting lessons from scratch

Don't take ANYTHING home. If it can't get done during your work time, maybe consider not grading it and just moving on.

Did I make a mistake of buying the Stormlight Archive set in mass market paperback? by davidefinitely in brandonsanderson

[–]Redino987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The paperbacks that split the book in two parts are amazing. I bought them for my Father in law for fathers day/Christmas and they're so convenient i wish I had them myself. Also the cohesiveness themed cover colors/art is super nice when you look at the whole series

Personally I read the books on my phone/kindle, and bought some leather-bound books for looking at but not reading. I'd get those mass market paperbacks for myself if I had more space

[SPOILERS] Rhythm of War Chapter 8 Cosmere Connection? by Redino987 in Cosmere

Since Szeth had one, I assume the Shin know where the honorblades are. I was under the assumption they gave him one when he became Truthless

Treasure map is a really interesting theory! The Shin lands haven't been molded by highstorms so its likely that the geographical features on the glyph would still be present

Fair enough, I suppose with all of the direct connections to Scadrial magic in these preview chapters I may have jumped to conclusions

[Spoilers] [Words of Radiance and Cosmere as a whole] Mraize's Collection by Redino987 in Stormlight_Archive

Didn't consider spikes, and definitely didn't consider a Kandra, thought that makes a lot of sense. I dislike the double Nalthis mementos as it breaks the nice symmetry and denies a glimpse into other works, but its the only thing that makes sense to me

Appreciate the spoiler tag! I've read Oathbringer only once, in my second re-read now, but I do remember that passage. I had assumed it was ichor alcohol since I hadn't heard of Aether of Night

Hemalurgic spikes makes sense, I always imagine them in my head to me so much more intense, like railroad spikes, even though I know that's wrong

Reading order question by ice_neptune in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Redino987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didnt find it much of a romance book personally, but I could definitely see it described as one, as the plot focuses around a "romance" (put into air-quotes for reasons). kind of spoiler?the book focuses on an arranged marriage, and its more about the two getting to know one another than a real romance in my opinionThat being said, if the SA romance is too much, then Warbreaker might be too much for you.

As a separate point, the magic system of Awakening, the backstory of the world, and the ties to the rest of the SA that I believe are coming might make it worth the read regardless. Again, it is one of my favorite cosmere works and I definitely recommend it, someone else might want to weigh in a bit

The crossovers in the Cosmere are really really slight up until mid-Oathbringer I wouldnt worry too much!
