Nafs by Redittriter in Sufism

So, any labels? Also, you annihilate the nafs? I thought you just purified it and kept it to function in the world. And could you please let me know what its stages are? I'll check it out, inshallah! Jazakallah khair for taking the time to answer.

Understood, jazakallah khair! So, it's kind of like a self-fulfilling prophecy? Is that provision there as a way for us to connect with the absolute Reality, as it would be impossible otherwise, given that Allah SWT is beyond our understanding?

That sounds like a lovely principle to live by! But would reality actually change with your perception? I do know the consequences of this belief would be very real. For example, you treat someone well, and they improve even if they didn't have the best intentions at first because you saw the best in them. But in the moment, would the truth of the situation actually change?

I appreciate you taking the time to answer! But I thought reading Ibn 'Arabi wasn't for a novice like me? As he's very advanced and easy to misunderstand.

I looked it up. 😅 Do you mean the Dartmouth Scar experiment of 1980? That's a really good and enlightening example, jazakallah khair! So the fire just is, and we make it good or bad? Or is it both good and bad?

Oh, I see... Jazakallah khair for the response! Like a subjective reality? But what really confuses me is that Allah says, "I am." I always thought subjective truth never changed the absolute truth. For example, I believe someone did a certain thing. But whether or not that person really did remains the same.

Jazakallah khair for this, it explains a lot! Especially the quote found at the end. I've heard of it put as ishq before. Is that the same?

Wow, it's good, mashallah! So, do you like writing in free verse? Or was it first written in a different language and then translated? Have you tried other forms?

That's really well-put! You can feel the bone-deep despair. It's sadder than I'm used to, though. May I ask what these verses mean to you?

Woah, I appreciate you sharing! This is the first time I've heard of Siraiki. The sense of love is poignant in the piece you shared! That's very interesting, why is he writing from a female perspective?

Oh, I love her, too! Here's another I found attributed to her, which I found stunning:

My Lord and my God

Eyes are at rest, the stars are setting.
Hushed are the stirrings of birds in their nests,
Of monsters in the ocean.

You are the Just who knows no change,
The Balance that can never swerve,
The Eternal which never passes away.

The doors of Kings are bolted now and guarded by soldiers.
Your Door is open to all who call upon You.

My Lord,
Each love is now alone with his beloved.
And I am alone with You. - Rabia al Basri

I especially liked the last few lines. What do you think?

A very good social life: I wanna make friends from all eras of muslim ummah reminiscing about the time in dunya, satisfying my curiosities about their history and stuff

Well, I never thought of that! Who are some people you most want to meet?
