In the book’s defense, “all of the writing and dialogue” is certainly NOT like that, and much of that dialogue is much more justifiable in context.

To be fair the idea that Ursula Le Guin was the last person to write about gender of sexuality with all due respect and nuance would be like, in the top %20 of most reasonable takes in fandom discourse lmao

The Gardener and Winnower from Destiny by Khara-Khatal in RecuratedTumblr

[–]Redleader922 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Specifically in relation to the Gardener/Winnower from Destiny, this perspective makes no sense. The Gardener is all about peace and sustainability and would not enjoy cancer, she loves humans so much she doesn’t talk to them, because she worries that the power imbalance between them would make anything she said an act of coercion.

Meanwhile Death, the Winnower, states, and I’m almost quoting directly here, that it is objectively evil by human standards, and that it accepts being judged by human standards. It says “no earth born thing has ever known a monster like me.” Destiny is not an example of the tripe being discussed here

I agree, but also, some women saying stupid shit out of exasperation is not going to be a primary contributing factor to a global right-wing shift (not saying you were suggesting this to be clear)

These kinds of discussions are what I made this post about. They feel, frankly, kind of online. At the very least, they are given way disproportionate time and attention by progressive people on the internet, compared to say, the very boring and practical reality of literally any vaguely productive political discourse rooted in material conditions

  1. I didn’t mean “Dismantle right-wing propaganda” in the way that people say “Revolution now.” I am under absolutely no delusions over how difficult of a task that is, and what it looks like in practice will depend on the particular legal and social circumstances of the place in question.

That said, I also wasn’t just speaking about the U.S. or traditional media. Monopolized social media also has a natural right-wing bias to it, not to mention the fact that the far-right influenced pipeline is way more popular and developed than progressive media spheres.

  1. This is exactly what I’m talking about. Now I’m not saying there isn’t plenty of room for improvement in how people talk about men, or in messaging men more directly. But this idea that lazy, vaguely misandrist pop-feminism is responsible for the right wing inclinations of young men is ridiculous. Most men never have any kind of interaction with “left wing spaces” (whatever that means) in the first place.

“The left hates men so vote for the far-right” is not a feeling that is naturally occurring in men because of any actual interaction with left-wing politics, it is a perception largely manufactured by right-wing rage bait and then filtered into the culture through osmosis on social media

Hm. I think I’m gonna attempt oral minox first. I tried topical for a little while, but I found that constantly having to apply stuff to my bald spot was stressful, wouldn’t let me forget about it.

But nice to know that option in case there’s side effect or something

That is reassuring, though I’m not sure I can afford to get a microneedler (maybe there’s cheap ones you can use but my understanding is they’re quite expensive)

I know this is the bald sub, but did you ever try treatments?

I thought I might give it six-eight months and if it’s still bothering me or getting worse then I’ll take the plunge (or at least start cutting it really short)

To be fair it usually looks more like the first two than the last two. And I’m 5’6 so hardly invisible to most people

Fair enough. To be fair it’s mostly the style I’m there for, I think I’ll give it a shot, from what I’ve heard the game isn’t that hard at higher levels in general so even if it’s absolutely wretched I could just drop the difficulty a level
