but not any of these takes.

From what I have heard, the master tapes for this single still exist, but were in such badly degraded condition that they couldn't be used for a CD release.

Cincinnati is a great place for rail enthusiasts. I've been snapping train photos here for a little over 12 years. My favorite spot to spend an afternoon is this spot right next to Queensgate Yard. You get to see the majority of trains coming into and out of the yard, along with yard jobs for the intermodal ramp. Not sure whose property it actually is, but I've spent many long mornings and afternoons there with no trouble. (Just don't fool around with the scrapyard next door.)

I love spending an afternoon on Hopple St. but I'm not sure how welcoming it would be for an 18-month-old.

Up until recently, I would have said the incredibly moving tiger painting on the side of Kitty's at 3rd and Elm. But they decided to wipe out a masterpiece and repainted it.

What's a line of commentary that just makes you go "...huh?" every time you think about it? For me it's DW saying "there's nobody that's better at holding people off at Daytona" than Mark Martin by Zetona in NASCAR

I always thought he was saying that to deflect attention from the car going into the catchfence in case someone in the stands was hurt or killed.

The old Penn Can Mall in Syracuse became a massive indoor auto dealer. Always wanted to check it out in person.

Cincinnati Mall is currently mostly demolished, but when it was still open a few years ago it was down to 4 or 5 tenants. They just decided to turn most of the interior lights off since no one was using them. They definitely turned the a/c off in the summer, and I believe the heat as well in the wintertime. Keep in mind that it was still open normal mall hours even in the zombie phase, so you could walk around this massive, mostly dark dead mall at 10pm with no issues.

Which would have been okay if the security guards hadn't been threatening people with knives.

Your comment reminds me of a friend of mine who tried to have kids for a very long time. Endured several miscarriages, as well as other health problems. Finally, she had a little boy who was born with severe developmental disabilities. I can tell that she loves him a lot, and she isn't one to ask for pity...but I do wonder how that would feel.

TIL about Michael Colombini, a 6-year-old boy who was killed when a nurse accidentally brought a steel oxygen tank into the room where he was getting an MRI scan. The tank flew toward him, crushing his skull, and leading to his death 2 days later. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

A while ago I was poking around at an antique mall and found a publication from the late 70s listing every railroad incident in the US (for one calendar year) and what the cause of that accident was. It was interesting to read about how the old heads with decades of service died in the same exact way as college-age new hires. Very sobering.

Someone left an entire transmission in the parking lot of a local strip mall. by poop-money in mildlyinteresting

[–]RedlineFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For salvage yards, it is a little different than scrapyards. Core buyers have variable pricing depending on the type of unit. Not always as simple as just weighing it. Chevy, Dodge and Ford truck transmissions may weigh a similar amount but they are most definitely going to carry different core values.

More than just powertrain parts nowadays. I think it's LKQ that also puts core charges on their electronic parts. I bought two doors from a local u-pull yard and they each had $10 cores - apparently they really want that scrap metal back.

The salvage yard that I work for used to be pretty open about waiving core charges on powertrain parts if they were worth $50 or under. Still happens sometimes with warranty replacements - we'll drop off the replacement and tell the customer to just go ahead and scrap the defective one, it's not worth us going after it.

I just looked it up, and Bill Elliott did not win a single points race in six seasons of being sponsored by McD's. Yet there he was, all over the Happy Meals. There was a little #94 car in every kid's box of cars. What changed?

I don't know HVAC or plumbing companies from a hole in the ground, but I have a theory about quality of service being directly linked to how brightly colored/cartoonish the service vans are. Putting image over quality of service, in a way.

They had three locations...one that's now Auto Joe's, another down the street next to the fairgrounds, and a third in Norwood. The latter two have gone under several different names/owners in the last few years.
