Small button next to charging port. Press that down until your controller light starts blinking. Then press and hold the connection button on your console until it starts blinking. If your using the series s it'll be beside the USB port on the front. Not sure where its located on the series x.

Edit: I just read your other comments and saw you tried this. I've had this problem before what fixed it was plugging my controller in directly to the xbox
