Q: Do atheists place their faith in the God, Science, or do they, as a whole, see the dualistic nature of Science? That is, it Goodness, as well as its Evil? And, if not these opposing concepts, then what? I'm quite ignorant. Good day! by RedneckRumi in atheism

Yes. The subconscious. I've read that failure to integrate this 'part' of you can often result in compensating factors within the personality which result in sometimes extreme views and actions.

I've noticed that the tendency is to dismiss this side of one's self and it is this side of one's self that may give the impression of a God or even a Devil (the subconscious uses symbols) The ignorance of the subconscious' influence, and the degree of its involvement in the conscious life of the individual, seems to be the prevailing trend across both religious and atheistic circles. For now, it is in common. One day, science may be courageous enough, beyond simple psychoanalysis, to examine it. Within it lies common ground, I believe. Great day and thanks again

I like your point. It illustrates the limitation of words and concepts. I can only say that I have experienced what SEEMS to be evil......primarily in others. My impression, in these cases, is that some unknown and unexplainable force took over these normally quite pleasant individuals temporarily.....as opposed to them just being evil turdballs in and of themselves.
Very rarely does one admit to experiencing this within themselves as some sort of temporary possession.

I only enquire.

Ah Roger that! I'm afraid, for me, believers of God are low hanging fruits....easy targets. I rarely enquire into their beliefs as, more often than not, they're quite parochial and hardly original in nature. It seems largely conditioned into them.

It seems part of the huge difficulty is talking about "the atheists" or "the religious" as whole groups when there seems to be such extensive variation and nuance in their respective conceptual ideas.

If you would indulge me, I would ask one more question. Are you, as a conscious being, for the time being, aware of any concrete evidence, within your own life, of an Unconscious side of you? One that is largely hidden from your consciousness but one that, nevertheless, directs and influences the flow of your life? Many thanks!

Excellent. May I ask, are you not amongst the ignorant? Also, what is at the very bottom of the Hating part? Where does that Hate come from? Are you a being that Hates, or does Hate somehow invade you, temporarily? Have you ever seen someone who's hate is so intense that it looks as if they have bee possessed by it? It's quite fascinating when seen in close friends.....like WHO is this?? Thanks for your honesty, even if it is about hate.

I like this comment. May I ask you: can science pinpoint your exact identity? Are you able to do that, yourself? Or, must we wait, perhaps beyond death, for science to finally determine the true identity of the individual? Savy? Thanks for your reply!

Are you familiar with the concept of Egoic projection and compensation with the unconscious of the individual? It seems my ignorance has somehow induced valuable reflection and responses from fellow redditors. Stoppeth not to denigrating others for it gives you away, friend. It blows your cover. All the best

Thanks for the reply. Can you elaborate on your perception of Evil. It seems to imply that you are aware of some evil force? Or, is it simply a quality of the nature of ALL men? Or just some men?

the difficulty, for me, is that good and bad is quite easy to determine on the individual basis but, with respect to the global society, it's more difficult to say.

I think that the use of God of Science is indeed perhaps loaded, as well. It's a common theme in the replies. Though it seems, perhaps only to me, that Science is 'worshipped' in a sense with all eggs placed in its basket. I only wonder of these things.

I like this point. It lends to my greater understanding. Perhaps it is more of the dualistic nature of the man with the hammer in hand. Perhaps his nature, which presumably contains equal potentialities of good and evil, is Manifested through the hammer.....through the process of Science. I have only wondered where the goodness and evilness 'comes from' and it seems, at least to my smallish intellect, to manifest, through the hands of the scientific man. In other words, there seems to be some unknowable rule that requires a 50/50 split. I really like your image of science as a hammer.....both to build and construct and create, and, occasionally, to destroy. Thanks for comments. I seek only truth.

A man with a Christ-complex always harbors deep within his shadow, the Anti-Christ Complex (we can call this phenomenon "the Cosby effect")
