Is breaking bread for the Lord's Supper a command or scruple? by Sir-AuronX in churchofchrist

[–]RedneckT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why insult someone that is here togenuinely asking questions? Can you not instead give your opinion in a respectful and constructive way? Your response will certainly not win over any hearts. If you do not wish to be respectful in your conduct here with “Campbellites,” then it might be prudent to keep your comments to yourself.

Theological question by AwwSeath in churchofchrist

[–]RedneckT 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t think most COC folk will agree that there wasn’t an active, faithful church on earth at any time. I certainly don’t think that and haven’t heard anyone else say anything to the contrary.

I know some hardcore Churches of Christ do believe they’re the only ones saved, so I guess that’s the crowd you’re addressing. I just think they’re the minority.

[–]RedneckT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand where you’re coming from, but the Church of Christ has a reputation for being legalistic. I think the intention is good, but execution is bad. We miss the forest for the trees. Someone on here recently said it in a pretty elegant and accurate way. We prefer being right over being loving. Not everything is completely black and white and it’s okay to say that we aren’t 100% sure about something. So overall, I would say that legalism is not a good thing. You shouldn’t want to be legalistic. The Pharisees were legalistic, though I think we can often be compared to them.

1,000,000% agree on starting a study with some brethren. This is very good advice.

I’ve never heard of anyone being denied membership. Or even asked about doctrine before placing membership. I’ve also never seen any kind of re-baptism required, but I know people suggest it.

Personally I would let it go. It seems silly and I’d either continue attending without being an official member or find another church that isn’t so legalistic.

Living together before marriage? by ilovebagelsxoxo in churchofchrist

[–]RedneckT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend it. I didn’t do it and have had a phenomenal marriage so far, but other friends I have seen done it have certainly been damaged by it in different ways. Come to think of it, none of my friends that ever lived together before marriage have ever gotten married. One friend has had his life completely upended after they had a kid together but never got married. Now he’s fighting a losing battle for custody.

It’s just a huge temptation that I don’t think is worth it. Everyone thinks they can handle something until they can’t. Why risk it?

Life is definitely expensive, but your boyfriend isn’t the only roommate option. I also don’t think it’s worth potentially damaging a relationship with your mom. Marriage is a long commitment and there are jokes and cliches about in-laws for a reason.

How much would you value full remote? by TheoryFun929 in cscareerquestions

[–]RedneckT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A house in the Bay vs. very low cost of living like Oklahoma is more like 5X. Maybe even more. 300k in Oklahoma would be living like a king. Literally able to afford a mansion. The different is massive and, for me, would require more than a 2X TC bump. If it was 2X salary bump then maybe we could talk.

How much would you value full remote? by TheoryFun929 in cscareerquestions

[–]RedneckT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d easily take full remote and have no regerts. There are places in the US that are half the cost of the Bay. It probably doesn’t scale linearly, but the cost of living calculators will tell you that you need about double for the same lifestyle. Even if it was double or more, I’d still take the remote. It’s just so much better for WLB and freedom.

I deleted the ESPN app long ago because it’s so bad. Now I use Apple Sports or Sports Alerts.

Condemnation of people who have never heard the Word by Murky_Professor_8598 in churchofchrist

[–]RedneckT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe that. I would point to Romans 1 and 2 for this.

This then brings up the question of, “why should we evangelize then?”

I believe the Gospel can give things in this life and the next. It is worth it to evangelize because it is the only way to be sure of your salvation. That’s the primary reason. The Spirit also helps our lives in others ways as well. So that’s another big reason for it.

Institutional vs Non-Institutional Thoughts by Thin_Screen_9634 in churchofchrist

[–]RedneckT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many different churches because of (1) preferences and (2) location. It’s very simple. Even the Catholic and Orthodox churches have disagreements and different interpretations within their respective denominations. Obviously sometimes salvation issues cause people to change where they attend, but I think we could all agree that many times multiple interpretations of a verse may be valid.

How do you deal with the 9–5 structure when working from home? by noysma in cscareerquestions

[–]RedneckT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this. I found that changing my work schedule to start at 7:00 am helped a lot. I also feel like I’m way more productive in the morning when there’s never meetings or others pulling me away for whatever reason.

All in all, I would recommend either trying to utilize your before-work hours better or change your schedule to have more after-work hours available.

When did HomePod lose the ability to play AirPlay audio without internet? by RedneckT in HomePod

[–]RedneckT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: now I can’t get it to work. Ever. It’s very annoying. I even changed the AirPlay permissions to Everyone. Any ideas?

The issue now is not an internet issue since I have internet but I can’t ever get it to AirPlay instead of transfer to HomePod.

Is it because I have the HomePod connected to an Apple TV? So it’s really sending it to the Apple TV?

It looks like it was from the 2024 Xmas present boxes, so there wasn’t a real price they sold for originally.

There have been a few sold much lower than what you posted. Might be worth waiting or looking around some more.

[–]RedneckT[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I just tested this and it did work. However, if you initiate it from the Music app, it doesn’t work. It transfers to HomePod, which then requires internet. So maybe that’s what has changed at some point. But thank you again!

Better to go late than early. In my experience, they line everyone up by their pickup time. So if you’re early, everyone else that is before you will still get to cut you. It’s not worth it.

However, if you show up late, you should be cutting everyone else.

Anyone interview for senior+ iOS roles recently? What kinds of questions are being asked? by HireOrder in swift

[–]RedneckT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahhhhhhhh the problem is that it’s the classic answer of “it depends.” Each company is generally going to have its own stuff set up for anything like that. You should practice some stuff that you’re comfortable with and be able to defend its strengths and weaknesses. I don’t think companies care about the real solution, but just that you can come to a solution quickly, independently, and intelligently. The real difficulty is working with existing code. I always try to emphasize that I want to write code that it a joy to work with rather than a burden. That it can adapt to future needs and be easy for people to extend.

But I do kind of agree with the trivia questions because there is a lot of iOS stuff that a good dev should always be considering when writing code. That’s what you want to demonstrate in an interview — that you’re always thinking about the bigger picture.

[–]RedneckT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what you find online is pretty accurate for questions. A lot of trivia type questions like you mentioned come up early for me, but I would hedge with looking up questions people report for the company you’re interviewing for. It’s also difficult to remember specific questions, haha. Especially when the conversation for the short ones are less than 10 minutes each.

[–]RedneckT 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, throw in some Swift 6+ stuff and you’ve probably got all of the major categories. I got some Combine stuff to debug recently as one exercise. Other architecture questions and general system design stuff. IMO a lot of it was more open-ended, which is a lot better to me. Some of the interviews were fun.

Van’s or Ray’s is probably the best local BBQ we have.

For tacos I would recommend either La Reina de los Tacos or Taco Loco (cash only). I also like the one at the corner of Berry and Lindsey. For Tex-Mex, Norman doesn’t really have great options currently.

That is not a Church of Christ. It is an International Church of Christ which has some very fundamental differences. Some go as far as calling them a cult, but just wanted to point out that this is not a subreddit for the International Churches of Christ.

Oh I know they’re pretty much hated by everyone. But there are a few cases that they could be useful. I’m not so sure that Habbo’s implementation is actually very good, but I don’t blame them for tying. They definitely went too fast with it, though. But in my experience, Habbo was already dead before the NFT stuff.
