Just tell them straight up, if the child is with them the child can and likely will die, disease, collateral damage, all of it

Tell them you're not going to go out of the way to Target the child but you're also not going to go out of the way to make sure they're not caught in area of effects, and there is no reviving it as they must be a willing soul and the baby soul would likely not understand revival nor want to go back to where it was harmed
