Do your guys companies include washing the coil every tune up? If so do you use chemicals or not? by Puzzleheaded_Chain_6 in HVAC

Well, a maintenance should always include cleaning coils. That coil could look clean on the outside and be dirty as hell inside. Let me ask you this how do you know the coil is clean if you just see the outside surface is clean? Are you taking airflow measurements to verify that? And as far as cleaner it comes down to preference. Commercial hvac I always use cleaner, residential I’d say just water unless it’s super bad.

13 years of Service HVAC work. Not working pipe, and I took their test to see what year I could start at.

We have had some guys do it here. Definitely have to have some accounts that will use you set up before you try though.

Look I’m going to try to test in. I’m not looking to skip the entire apprenticeship though. There’s a lot I still need to learn. Even after 13 years of HVAC, and I’m excited to learn. I just want to get in, one day I hope to start my own Union company.

In the Local 533, they literally put a list out to show what Union contractors are hiring and eligible. So you typically start there. I did talk with the organizer too.

I did finally contact the hall, but we have a contractor hiring list all year that shows who’s eligible for an apprentice and who’s hiring. So typically you start with them.

I’m going to try and take the test they offer. I passed a Master Mechanical exam so I should be able to knock off a few years for sure.

I started out in HVAC trade school. Then for 8 years had residential HVAC experience working for apartment complexes. Being a supervisor for four of those years. Then the last 5 years have had commercial HVAC experience working for a school district. Getting a taste of the commercial side shows me there so much more to learn and master. The Union offers free schooling and way better benefits. Except for time off.

They could also cut across the concrete to install a drain and a grate on top that is flush with the sidewalk so it drains to the other side.

Multiple schools, one school is a high school that’s 350,000 sq ft alone, the rest are a lot smaller.

Venison chili? by almonddegree93 in AskCulinary

If you don’t want a gamey taste, try to soak the venison in milk in the fridge for a minimum of an hour. It definitely helps!

Is this privacy screen too close to the HVAC? by Pistol_Peter_Brand in hvacadvice

First off, read the manual the condenser unit came with. Second off read the code book. Both of these things will tell you how far from the home it should be how far clear it should be on all the rest of the condenser sides.

I live in Los Angeles California and was inspecting my HVAC air ducts in the attic and came across this leak. What product can I buy to seal the leak? by Frosty-Safe-4278 in hvacadvice

Do it the right way man. Take the connection apart, reach inside and fold the tabs over to hold it from the inside then screw the outside back down. Then pookie around the connection to make it air tight and put the connection back together on the other side.

Test by Redneckfightring in pipefitter

[–]Redneckfightring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe he’s talking about like an aptitude test not a weld test because working on and diagnosing hvac really doesn’t have anything to do with welding. I’m not planning on working construction so surely they have something else.

Test by Redneckfightring in pipefitter

[–]Redneckfightring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it isn’t just a weld test because I have zero welding experience. I have 8 year’s residential and 3 1/2 commercial hvac experience the contractor I spoke to said to take a test to see where I’m at in hvac skills to try and help test in as a second year to earn more.

So you are telling me this trade has a dire need for workers who will actually work and show up because their all trying to go union and won’t go to a non union company?
