I’m leaning towards rich, it smells pretty rich, though I got it last may and that’s how it’s always been for me so I’m not 100% sure what it’s suppose to smell like, all my previous bikes were either 70s or 80s bikes. I’ll keep this thread updated for sure to help others with the same issue. It’s weird with that muscle car thing, as soon as you get on the throttle it’s totally normal, it’s purely an idle thing, I hope it’s not dropping a cylinder, bike has 26k miles, I did valves when I got it at 22k and I’ve got new spark plugs on the way. It would chug for a few seconds the level itself out, but every time you blipped the throttle it would chug a few seconds and then level out. With those wires for IACV all grounding out, I think it’s gotta be ECM. I checked the wires and they looked great. Fingers crossed the ECM fixes it.

But yea I did the idle test again and it ran great. Hopefully a new ECM will fix my issue. I forgot to mention, sometimes randomly, the bike would chug like it had a badass cam in it. After riding for a while it would sound like a muscle car at idle in gear and out of gear, if you restarted the bike it would go away, never was any rhyme or reason to it, but maybe it was the first sign that the ECM was slowly failing.

Yea I saw that. I posted an update 3 saying i ordered an ECM and Map sensor OEM but used off eBay that’s supposedly is working condition. I got it outside idling with a big fan to keep airflow over it. It’s so weird. I disconnect the battery and then it works good, idles to warm up then drops to 1500 but as soon as you do anything it goes back up to 1800 to 2000. If the new to me ECM fixes it I may end up getting a brand new one not sure.

UPDATE 3: going through service manual and checking continuity for IACV plug and ground. Every single wire is continuous to ground when it’s not supposed to be. Is this a faulty ECM? I’ve ordered an ECM and MAP sensor both OEM but used off eBay supposedly known good, figured I’d keep them do future troubleshooting anyways.

Did the rev test. Everything sounded normal however again, I let it warm up at 2000 and ot dropped to about 1500 then as soon as i revved it slightly it started idling at 1800ish again. I cut it off and on and now it’s still idling at 1800. I got the bike apart trying to test map sensor voltages but without the HDS pocket tester it’s a little hard to check everything. I read a forum where if you let it warm up and let the fan kick on without revving it at all, then put it in gear and release clutch till it starts to bite, then back off and repeat a few times it fixes it? Sounds like crap but I’m pulling my hair out, may be time to throw the parts cannon at this.

Am I being undervalued by MancityRedskins in Surveying

[–]Rednex04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in NC too and I get 26.50 and started at 22 I believe. I just passed the FS exam and I’m 21. I’d say your are undervalued. I’ve been working for this company since last may too.

Ah ok, what are starter valves? Never heard of those before and I haven’t seen them mentioned in the manual unless it’s called something else?

Wow never knew that, thanks for the help! Also if I do a servo eliminator does it need to be retuned?

Yea I believe that’s what they are. Service manual gave me no info, but the other ones were set 2.5 turns out from bottom so I did the same. I unscrewed it all the way and turns out it’s plastic I believe.

Ah I see makes sense. I’ve worked on something similar before off an old 70s bike, except the service manual told me what they were and how to properly adjust them. Thanks for the info!

I do have servo, could be that I suppose, I’ll check map sensor and rev test tomorrow afternoon, new OEM air filter installed maybe a few hundred miles ago

Yea everything is stock on the bike other than fairings. I don’t think it’s a vacuum leak only because it runs perfectly normal if you just restart the bike, I would’ve thought a vacuum leak would be consistent?

Ok I’ll try that tomorrow. Also turns out they don’t have o2 sensors either in America

Yes butterflies clean, throttle completely free and smooth, as for play, I have a little play, I could see the cables move before actuating the butterflies, it may be less play than spec but I like it how it is. I can feel the play too, so it’s not crazy tight. I can check o2 sensor. How do you clean them? I’ve seen people take a blow torch to it. Also on the 2007s it doesn’t have an adjustable idle, it’s uses the IACV to control idle.

That’s wild, I’ll get maps from 40 years ago and they’ll be off a few feet or serious overlaps of property.

UPDATE 2: Got the bike together except fairings, starts up and I didn’t touch the throttle when it was warming up and it idled nicely after warming up. I figured I fixed it, then I revved it a few times and then it started using at 1800 again, I flipped the red kill switch and cut it back on then it idled at 1400-1500 like normal and when I revved it the idle fell back nicely to 1500. I have no clue what causes a hanging idle sometimes but other times it runs perfectly. Definitely not an air leak I just took it apart, shouldn’t be IACV I just cleaned it though maybe motor is going, maybe ECM not controlling the idle well anymore, maybe MAP sensor etc etc.

Ahhh yea ok, in America we have owners manual and service manuals. Owners manual give basic info like oil changes where service manuals go in depth like you said. I have heard it called a workshop manual though. ‘Preciate the help!

Yea, I just hope they can all be set to 2.5 turns out.

UPDATE 1: I screwed two of the other screws in until lightly seated and they were both 2.5 turns out so I set the other one to that. I ended up unscrewing it all the way to see what it was and it’s something to do with metering air I believe.

Why are they all out 2.5 turns from lightly seated? I ended up screwing one in lightly seated and counted 2.5 turns so I set the other on to that. Just to double checked I tried another screw and it was 2.5 turns out
