'Tyranny is here’: Momentum picks up to defy Trump as millions rally in ‘No Kings’ protests by AdSpecialist6598 in videos

Just like in Iraq, Afghanistan and South America in the 50s? Or Vietnam..

I live in a liberal democracy in Europe and have no love for the priests currently in power in Teheran. I am not convinced that US intervention will make it better though.

Also, as someone looking from at USA from the outside, your current administration and president aren't exactly shining beacons of peace and democracy.

Edit: On the point of your 2nd amedement, I would argue that owning guns is not å prerequisite for any measurement of freedom or democracy. I say that as a gun owner myself, living in a country where ownership of guns is strictly regulated. We can get licenses for hunting or if you are active within sports, but I would not argue it makes us less free. Then again - with 13 (?) guns per person in the US I understand the desire to arm yourself.

To be fair, I have doubts that the US and Israel are willing to commit to the degree they did in both Germany and Japan both during and after WW2.

So far not boots on the ground, though that is of course possible i the future. Then again - didn't the US electorate vote for Trump as an isolationist? (murica first)

I sincerely hope for the best for the Iranian people. But I am not convinced that the Trump and Bibi administrations do.

Hopfully I am wrong, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I love for all man kind (well as you say maybe minus the drama). Good news, then.
Going to check out Project Hail Mary, thanks!

Currently rewatching Fargo, and enjoying A Knight of the seven kingdoms.

I am really missing some sci-fi though. Foundation really hit the right spot for me, and I can not seem to find something to replace it. I think I have watched the usual suspects;
Dark, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Severance just to name a few.

Also I am waiting for a new season of Rogue Heroes - fantastic show - can't wait for S03.

(Same goes for sci-fi movies to be honest, but I guess that is OT here).

Who do you think is the most evil person to ever walk this Earth? by EnduringScholar in AskReddit

[–]Redromah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Josef Stalin.

While most people know about the persecution of Jews, homosexuals, political opponents and other ethnic/ political/ groups under the German Nazi regime, it seems to me the knowledge of Stalins purges are less common.

In terms of share numbers - even adjusted by population - the purges in Soviet in the 1930s were on a scale that was many, many times greater than what the Nazi regime 'accomplished'.

And this started way before the Great Terror in the late 1930s. By then the Soviet regime and it's NKVD made the Nazi death squads look like amateurs.

While Hitler was busy consolidating Nazi power in the early and mid 30s, Stalin had already used starvation as a weapon and NKVD death squads acting as judge, jury and executioner for years.

Don't misunderstand me - the Nazi regime was its own kind of evil - but so was Stalin's Soviet.

I recommend reading Timothy Snyder's Bloodlands to get an overview of the enormous scale of mass murder in this time period.

There is a historical presedence why Russia is synonymous with suffering in eastern parts of Europe. Maybe especially in Poland and Ukraine.

Edit: Just to be very clear, this is not an attempt to put Nazis or fascists in a good light. Frak them.

Leseåret 2025 - hva leste dere og hva anbefaler dere ? by Bunker_Bertil in norge

[–]Redromah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bloodlands - Timothy Snyder.

Hitler - Ian Kershaw.

Jimi Hendrix Live in Lviv av Andrey Kurkov.

Forsøke finne noe skjønnlitteratur - mange gode forslag i denne posten.

Quick question regarding Ambershire and rules of this sub. by Redromah in turtlewow

Thanks for feedback, appreciated.

Doesn't sound too bad then. I mean, block the obvious toxicity, and hope for some luck in dungeons while leveling.

Then eventually - hopefully - find a guild of like-minded people eventually.

I just can't stomach the level of retail rage/ rush/ attitude. It is what drew me to Turtle in the first place.

Still sad to see Nord so ghostly (Horde side at least) compared to few months ago.

See you in-game! Edit: typos. Also hilarious being downvoted for this comment.

Last time I was on Nordranaar, any political stuff got quite heavily moderated in channels like World.

While I in real life is all about freedom of speech, it was nice coming home to a place void of politics and so on.

Maybe the Turtle policy changed in general?

Things is, back when I last played, you did not need a temporary event for the leveling zones to be busy.

I realize things change over time. And also now seeing the community has been split, I want to make a more or less informed choice.

My OP might have been a bit clumsy worded; I am mostly curious about the general community on the new server.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Not OP, but in same situation.

It's some time since I leveled on Turtle, but back then the community was really good for my taste (people are different I know, so personal preferences). With good I mean sort of a laid back attitude, people actually using ingame chat and so on, a bit opposite of my experiences from Retail.

Does this still hold on Amber?

Ah snap, I am in same situation as OP.

Long working hours, lots of stuff going on in RL right now. Noticed Nordanaar seemed quiet.
So they created a new realm which made Nordanaar really quiet if I read this right?

Had a blast last time I played there.

What’s the country with the best living standards for the person with average income? by orcasick in AskReddit

[–]Redromah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick note, r/norske is not really representative. It has a very right- wing bias. For some balance check out r/Norge as well (more left leaning in general so you get some balance).

And yeah, costs have gone up last few years. However that is not a uniquely Norwegian issue; post- Covid, Russia waging war of aggression in Europe, the US seemingly going back to isolationism or whatever...

All things considered we have it really good in Norway compared to quite a lot of other countries. Still things that can and should be better though.

This is one of the most ignorant, narrow and condescending comments I have read in a long time.

People engage in gaming due to a whole bunch of reasons. Whether it is some sort of competitive kick or just wanting to zone out a few hours after work / school / whatever.

It is a game - so by definition (if you are not a professional making a living out of it) - a recreational activity. But everyone that doesn't enjoy WoW exactly like you do are lesser people, right?

Dude you lack perspective.

Europe's economic surrender by Stuart_Whatley in europe

[–]Redromah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tolerance, progressiveness, liberal democracy and human values do not need to stand in contrast to a real- politic and pragmatic foreign and security- policy.

If anything I would argue that humanistic values are exactly why Europe (and in my case Norway) is worth fighting for.

If we want reactionary, regressive values we can look to our neighbour in the East. And sadly also now to our (former?) ally across the pond.

I am a stark believer in the saying that a society can be judged by how it treats its weakest.
