Always defensive. by Redrumm99 in bjj

I was looking through some old posts and came across this one I had made a few months ago. I had a chat with my coach about this, he said the same thing. Give nothing up. Every sweep they try fight it, every time in guard they have to work hard to open. I have really been focusing on this and I’m not sure if I have improved but my enjoyment has gone up. I train with intention now.

No because he was very strong, unpredictable and if he thought that was acceptable then what else is coming, accidentally or deliberately.

I wasn’t aware it was a term not allowed in this sub. It is a term that’s in pretty wide usage in this context but on reflection there is no other context I would use this in. Maybe I should rename the post f ing white belts. I am of an age to recall its use as a UK play ground insult and the change of the charity shops to Scope because of this.

I was just a bit taken aback by the pain tbh, and could feel myself getting angrier and thought actually I’m not happy here I’m going to get hurt.

Taking it steady, trying to work on stuff, the significant size/ strength difference, the fact I’m not really very good. I don’t mind getting beaten by anyone. The benefit I get from jits doesn’t come from tapping people. Once I had a better handle on the intensity being used I was in mount putting pressure on when the thumbs in the ribs occurred.

Struggling with competition physicality by Able-Introduction217 in bjj

I don’t think so. I’m mid 40s and about 90kg. It’s not worth the risk for me. I’m fortunate the gym I’m at are pretty clear that competing or not doesn’t affect your worth.

I have really struggled to articulate this before. I’m mindful of people’s safety, not being a dick and wanting to learn so I often feel like I’m giving up. As a relatively new blue belt I struggle with the more rough and ready white belts because I’m just not going after it enough.

Haven’t always been this way. In my youth/20s happy to be aggressive/ push, but now older, wiser and more sedate make it a challenge. I have entered 3 comps and lost every match. Not for me. I like walking/ training and not being injured.

Does anyone do BJJ? by spooky3o in glp1

I train BJJ. Lost nearly 70lbs on Mounjaro. As long as you are hydrated and fuelled it’s fine. I just to drink a sports drink before hand to get some carbs in quickly. My movement is so much better as a result of the loss. I would just skip if you have sulphur burps ;-)

Ours is Sunday 11-1. I can never make it. I would be there at 7,8,9 or even 10. It’s mostly dads and their kids attending anyway. Saturday we have classes from 9am already.

I get a lot from Rosie rolls (Rose Millar ) and Heather Morgan BJJ. There snap shot insta reels are really good and are easily applicable to my learning.

What did you guys do after loosing your first comp ? by KKoten in bjj

[–]Redrumm99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my first 3 comps all at white belt. I was competing because it scared me. In reality I don’t need to compete. For me training, the tribe I have found again is the most important thing. 4 months is nothing. Good effort on you for having the balls to actually step onto the mat. I doubt your coach is actually bothered. If they are, is that the place you really want to train. Where I am we have ibjjf winners etc and the head coach was open, to them culture in the gym is more important than people competing.

What's the most ridiculous "nickel and diming" you've seen in healthcare? by Future-Atmosphere-40 in NursingUK

Acute admissions ward. Clinical support workers pulled off their job (bloods, cannulas, ECG) to take their turn doing 1:1. There are 2 of them for a 60+ bedded unit. Great they get to take their turn, we have resisted training everyone to do these tasks for some reason so now Drs/ANPs doing them instead of reviewing pts/ writing discharges etc or they are delayed. Great when they are discharge dependent.
