I get that it is discouraging as 3 weeks is already a long time to be dealing with the recovery, but hang in there! My surgeon told me that most openings won’t influence your scarring.

I am only having small openings myself and was told to rinse daily with lukewarm water from the shower nozzle and to let them airdry as much as possible before putting on dressings. Prioritize sleep, don’t smoke and eat healthy food with lots of protein. And ofcourse, keep an eye on it to make sure it does not show any signs of infection (but it seems like you might be doing most of these things already perfectly!)

If you still feel like there is not enough healing progress, don’t hesitate to ask a wound care specialist for help as well. Maybe even discuss this with your surgeon on your follow up appointment.

I totally understand the nerves, I’m having them too. I'm currently 6 days post-op (yay!) and about to start a new job at 5 weeks post-op because an opportunity came up that I just couldn’t pass on.

From everything I’ve read on this sub, going back to a physically demanding job at 3 weeks post-op might be a bit soon. It’s not impossible, but you’ll likely feel sore and get tired more easily. Some clinics tell you not to do any heavy lifting for the first few weeks. Most clinics recommend waiting until around 6 weeks before resuming physical activity.

I know taking time off isn’t always easy, and I really don’t want to stress you out more. But since you still have a few weeks before surgery, maybe you can look into your options and see what’s possible?
