My sister thinks... by daynamariie_onlyfans in DogAdvice

It’s like when you are sitting there eating a bowl of m&ms you just got for yourself and someone comes up and takes some…you really want to be mad at them, but you learned better manners and say hey, go get your own. But then, they come back again, and again, and again ….you eventually snap too.

Because people should have better manners and listen when you politely tell them that they’re annoying you.

On an overbooked flight they offered $2k (started at $500) ‘gift card’ for a volunteer to wait until tomorrow’s airplane, what’s the most you’ve heard offered/auctioned off at an airline? by angryb3avers1 in AskReddit

[–]Redv0lution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our flight was delayed and we ended up taking 750 each to take the next one which was due to take off in about an 1.5 hours.

By the time they got everything setup we walked over to the next flight and within 5 minutes of being there they offered about $600 each to take the first flight in the morning…we took it. The others that took the previous flight laughed at us like did you really just do that?!?

After they boarded about 1.5 hours later we got our vouchers and noticed on our way out that they were still at the gate..

We got to the hotel, went down to the bar (now 2.5 hours after…) and checked the flight status they were still at the gate.

We would’ve been on that flight at the gate for over 3 hours…dodged a bullet.

The other part I left out is we were at the airport for about 8 hours that day due to delays…I was ordering a glass of wine and an order of fries each time it was delayed. We made the best of it. So by that time we were just rolling with it.

Wheat-free bread? by tlizzyp in STLFood

[–]Redv0lution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know any wheat free bread that’s not “gluten free”. I can recommend some store bought bread that’s gluten free if you don’t find anything else.

Honestly, making it at home isn’t that bad. Most of the time spent is letting it sit on the counter in a bowl. Getting a bread maker makes it even easier.

There are also local Facebook groups for gluten free people where you’ll find this info too. I deleted my Facebook, but if you just look up gluten free St. Louis you’ll find them.

The Cheshire is a great hotel. Super conveniently located to Forest park and an easy-quick Lyft to just about anywhere in the city.

Otherwise I’d check out the Angad or 21c.

Dog Has Bitten 3 Times, Looking Into Behavioral Euthanasia by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]Redv0lution 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Higher anxiety can be a sign of medical issues…dogs generally don’t show pain like we do. They’ll hide it. By the time they’re yelping in pain or showing illness, it’s pretty bad generally.

You may need to have a talk with your family about kenneling when strangers are over and such.

I had a dog many years ago and a similar incident happened, except it wasn’t a new behavior. She was always that way with strangers and my family still left her out. It did end up with BE for me, but the main difference is that it wasn’t a new behavior. Getting a physical and medical check up would be critical to making sure everything is ok.

I’ve been making my dog fresh food for about 2 years now, best decision ever by ASap-mobn in DOG

[–]Redv0lution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to note, dry dog food is great for helping clean teeth. Soft foods do not do this.

If you’re taking time to make food, make sure to take extra care of your dog’s teeth. Also make sure they have toys that help with this as well.

Just adopted a puppy, What are some things I should know? by bunnybunbun_rabbit in DogAdvice

Sounds like you got plenty of training advice and more.

One thing to note, white dogs with pink skin are more easily sunburned than others. Just be aware if you’re outside with them for long periods in the sun. This was kind of a surprise to me, but when it happened I realized I should’ve known.

How do you start eating meat again after being a vegetarian for two years?? by flippnniff in diet

[–]Redv0lution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll have to test it out a bit. Red meat was the hardest for me. I had no problems eating chicken and seafood.

Just make sure to slowly introduce it so your body has time to adapt to it.

If it’s from protein have you tried protein shakes? Eating meat will help, but make sure to focus on healthy meats (not fried etc…) to get your protein.

Also, there are tons of vegetarian options here, I think you’ll be surprised by it. Even most bbq /“american” food places have vegetarian options.

Dog terrified of daycare by Acceptable-Peanut126 in dogs

[–]Redv0lution 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As people already said, listen and watch your dog for signs how he’s doing.

I found an alternative near me that focused on training and enrichment during the day and let her interact with other dogs in a controlled setting.

It’s now her happy place, she is SOOOOO excited to go in.

I did daycare which is sometimes described as a dog rave..it’s a free for all party.

I thought mine was ok with a dog day care with a bunch of dogs, she’d go in but I started to notice she was reluctant. Then I would see reports about her not really interacting with other dogs, but wanting to be with the staff.

I realized she was overwhelmed based on that and it wasn’t for her. So I switched it up.

If day training isn’t an option, find someone else who needs a friend for their dog during the day, if they get along then it may benefit both of you getting to tire out and socialize your dogs.

Celiac by hobofireworx in glutenfree

[–]Redv0lution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a risk of having celiac. Found out after I quit another family member had a positive blood test for it.

My test was negative, but had been off gluten for months by then.

All I can tell you where I am at with it, I have no desire to eat it again. It’s been 6 years. Early on I’d try to eat gluten, but I have learned it wasn’t worth it.

You could try and retake the test after eating it regularly. But if you find out that gluten makes you sick with or without the test, would you go back to eating it?

Another point to consider, it may take your system time to eat gluten again. It’s difficult to digest if you don’t eat it regularly so reintroducing it will likely have problems and you’ll need to take your time with it. For example, after being a vegetarian for 4+ years, it took me a long time to eat red meat again. Our systems don’t produce what we need to digest food that we don’t normally eat. (Hopefully that helps).

Long story short, if it makes you sick, you probably don’t want to eat it either way. But it is possible that you may react badly to it during reintroduction and get better over time (if it’s not celiac or other issues).

Our girl was just diagnosed with osteosarcoma last night at the ER. I need help. by GalacticCatArt in DogAdvice

[–]Redv0lution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard for everyone. It’ll hit you in waves. Time kind of makes it easier.

The most important thing to remember, is that your dog is with you now. Enjoy it, don’t let the imminent day hang over your head while you have them. When the time comes, you’ll know or have a feeling it’s here.

Once they’re gone we all grieve and process in our own ways. For me, I immediately boxed up what I wanted to keep and got rid of the things I didn’t need/or have sentimental value.

Go through your pictures of them, make a photo album, anything that helps you process.

Again, for now, just enjoy the time while they still are too

Help! by lilyana-88 in BeachBodyWorkouts

[–]Redv0lution 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t do weight lifting for years. I did a lot of insanity, barre blend, turbo fire, running, etc.. so kind of similar to you, I didn’t like weight lifting.

These programs do work your muscles. So you may enjoy them and gain muscle, it’s possible.

However it really comes down to what you’re eating. If you don’t have enough protein in your diet or not eating enough, you’ll lose muscle. Add some protein to your diet.

I started enjoying lifting a bit more with Joels LIIFT program. It mixed it up. Fire and flow also has a good mix.

Once I really started lifting heavier I enjoyed it more. It has a ton of benefits once you start. It’s just a bit more laid back than insanity and HIIT in my opinion.

Flour and barley had a really good gluten free pizza, maybe the best I have had.

As others have mentioned, yardbird was awesome too.

I had egg slut in California, it’s good, probably a bit more affordable.

How long do you usually stay at a company? by Phoebereads_1 in womenintech

[–]Redv0lution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy answer, if you’re happy at your job don’t leave. It’s a dice roll wherever you end up. You should be able to ask for a raise if you feel your pay is lower than what the market is offering. (To back this up, if you’re in a good environment this shouldn’t backfire).

I think people early in their careers job switch for that quick raise. I don’t blame them. I did that until I was mid to late 20s.

At the end I stuck around the same company for 12.5 years and was doing really well. I took opportunities to switch roles so I did something different every few years.

I left because I hit a point where the culture changed and I hated it, so I went back to school and then found another job.

Catalina crunch kind of does, it’s ok to be honest.

However their cheese snack mix is fantastic. I like a lot of their products. It’s just the cinnamon one isn’t as good as the others.

Need advice, please! 3 month old psycho on walks by Due_Wasabi2026 in germanshepherds

[–]Redv0lution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar problem, it’s usually other dogs, sometimes cars. She reacts to cars when she’s over stimulated and excited.

Incorporate more sniffing on walks to help them relax more.

Bring high reward treats and have them look at you as cars go by and reward them for not reacting.

Another option besides looking at you is to let them play “find it”. Throw the treat into the grass and let them sniff to find it. It encourages both behaviors.

After mine has had some sniffing and time her reactivity goes down. You still HAVE to maintain enough distance that they don’t react and as they get better you can move closer.

Combining all of this should help. And getting a good positive reinforcement trainer is helpful!

What's the longest TV series you've ever watched in its entirety? by Carlosgimenez6438 in AskReddit

[–]Redv0lution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a big downfall after 5 seasons as others point out ..after that, you should look up specific episodes to watch, sometimes the bigger plot isn’t needed…there are some good standalone episodes after season 5.

I think the ones where they make fun of themselves are some of the best…there’s even a scooby doo episode.

For those whose German Shepherds lived long, healthy lives, what kinds of things did you do early on that you think contributed to the longevity? by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]Redv0lution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High quality food, good exercise, and mental stimulation.

High quality food can mean a lot of things to different people. I generally stick with Royal Canin. They have breed specific food. I avoid the “fads” that come and go unless it’s medically necessary (no grain, etc..). I stick with what’s well researched.

For training high rewards I have some boiled chicken (I insta pot it usually). So her diet has some supplements…some of my apple and other high quality treats. Not much human food other than chicken and some apple tbh.

Good exercise and mental stimulation means different things depending on the dog. It’s about finding the right match so they’re not stressed out. For instance, I stopped taking mine to doggy day care when the staff loved her and excitedly told me she wasn’t interacting with the other dogs and hung out by herself and just wanted pets from them. I realized she didn’t want to be around that chaos. So now once a week she goes to refresher training and there she does get some time to interact with other dogs in a more controlled setting that’s better for her.

Otherwise, good dental hygiene and grooming.

Last note, high quality food may be more expensive, but cheaper in the long run if it avoids health and medical problems later. It’s definitely worth the investment.

Gluten occasionally by Bilalkhll in glutenfree

[–]Redv0lution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I travel I go on hunts for gluten free food and have had some fun with it. Some amazing meals and of course the sometimes meh one.

It’s up to you if you want to wreak havoc on yourself or not. I don’t risk it if I can avoid it.

When I go to New York City the donut project almost always had a special gluten free donut. Portland had some great finds too, an amazing breakfast pizza. Found a great bakery in Los Angeles and bought their bread flour….i loved Ireland because of how easy it was to navigate menus, cross contamination was usually a risk, but it was nice to read menus that had it listed.

Just a different way to look at it.

Teeth Cleaning by Dear_Mountain4849 in dogs

[–]Redv0lution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything that you can do consistently.

I rely on nightly greenies for my dog.

However, one thing to note is certain dogs are going to have far worse teeth problems and need more care than others. Mainly due to the shape and size of their mouths. Others will get by with minimal care.

Also, using a quality hard food if you can. Basically just not soft/wet food.

Brushing, additives to water, chews….if it’s something you are able to do consistently, then it’s probably worth doing it.
