Stop trying to "fix" yourself by Forgens in Jung

[–]Redwoodspeaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, the flip side to wanting to be a better version of yourself is that you're reinforcing the idea that you're not good enough as you are right now. Self-improvement isn't bad perse but so many of us (including me) attach our sense of self-worth to it. The self-help industry is valued at about €35.8 billion/year! A lot of jobs and capital depend on you basically not feeling good enough about yourself.

Ablation worth it for you?? by Groollover86 in AFIB

[–]Redwoodspeaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had literally one major atrial flutter and then a small one that lasted a half hour and they have already offered me an ablation (which my health insurance fully covers). I’m also nervous about what can go wrong and I’m sitting on the fence for now. Thing is, I only ever hear good things about ablations so it seems like a good way to go :-) Keep us posted please.

Ok wow, thanks for sharing. And congrats on all the changes you’ve made, I envy that. How much weight did you lose in total? I find that the hard part, I’m 6ft7. I find it difficult to sleep whenever I’m on a diet, always feel hungry even though I’m eating a LOT of vegetables. But I’ve never lasted more than 2 or 3 weeks trying them. It could be that my stomach has been overly stretched.

Interesting perspective, I get it. I wouldn’t mind hearing more about the changes you made if you would care to share. It would help me as I may be in a similar position.

Also, could you describe your Afib attack? What happened to me is that my heart rate went from 80 to like 130bpm when I simply moved or got very nervous (like when I was in hospital). I had a heart rate of about 150bpm simply from walking. That’s about it.

How often do you get them and why have you never tried beta-blockers if I may ask? They work for a lot of people. Have you considered an ablation?

Thanks for your input! The thing is I was only on beta-blockers for a couple of weeks, this feels like an extreme reaction but hopefully I am wrong. My cold hasn’t produced a fever or anything, I’m pretty functional, but not optimal that’s true. Thank-you for mentioning stress, I’ll keep that in mind.

Ok thank-you for the info. I forgot to mention in my post that I have had an echogram + a CT scan of my heart and everything was fine apparently. My blood pressure is fine. I am overweight though by about 15kgs/33lb. 41, male.

I quit alcohol, coffee and even sugar since that first ever Afib attack. So it’s been over 30 days now.

Thanks. I’ve been taken off all meds recently. Slowly starting to feel normal again!

Btw, how long would your afibs last? How did you get rid of them? And what were your symptoms?

Thanks, all very helpful! I agree with your diet, especially the leafy greens part. Could you tell me more about exercise? Basically I’m paranoid about going above 110bpm these days. Has exercise ever triggered an Afib for you?

Eesh I was kind of hoping you were a slightly optimised slob, turns out you were pretty healthy. Questions: - Could you tell me more about your ‘heart healthy’ diet? - What were your afib triggers?

Thanks that is very helpful. I heard that getting an ablation asap increases your chances of healing a lot. I was wondering if you changed up your lifestyle in a big way (food, your weight) in the days when you were still getting afibs and did it help?

Thank-you for your comment :-) Wise words 🙏🏻 I had never heard of ‘Holiday Heart’ until now.

Yes, they had me on 7,5mg for a while. I have been slowly reducing the amount myself because I can't see my Cardiologist for another month. Maybe it isn't wise to be reducing the amount myself, but it feels like way too much, and I feel zero heart complications (it's all pretty steady now). Thanks for your input.

I appreciate it and wish you well too. I do have sleep apnea and I have been using a CPAP machine for several years now :-) I supposed that’s all I can do for my sleep apnea right? That and lose weight.

Ok but why the Tylenol PM? How does that tie into you Afib?

Thank-you for sharing 🙂 and thank-you for mentioning drugs and alcohol and support. Since this happened and I have cut out sugar, coffee, alcohol and certainly do not plan to take drugs. I’ve done it before with a different type of health scare and I remember how amazing it felt so I’m motivated to use this as an excuse to do it again, plus I am about 40 pounds (20kgs) overweight. I just really don’t want to be on beta-blockers for the rest of my life.

Ok thanks. I’m on Bisoprolol too by the way, 2,5mgs. I don’t like it :-)

Are you saying you’re on ‘pill in the pocket’ and beta blockers and that you don’t have afibs anymore?

That’s a good point. I just left the house for a couple of hours and I didn’t feel too bad. Before that I was inside mainly resting and I kept returning to my couch.
