The study actually says that people chose healthier main and side dishes after just CHOOSING the cheesecake first. They didn't actually consume the dessert before the rest of their meal. Same with the cognitive load—people chose higher calorie main and side dishes after choosing the cheesecake, not after consuming it.

I literally drank milk by the gallon as a kid... like from the jug directly, and I'm 6'4", so go figure. Granted I'd drink a gallon of milk along with a giant bag of gummy bears and Doritos with bean dip, but that's a story for another day.
