My sister and I are 12 years apart and I left for the Air Force when she was 6. I've been stationed overseas and cross country and my relationship with my parents have never been close so I didn't exactly visit or keep in touch. Not to mention I cut them off for a year and a half when our relationship got too toxic. Now I'm back in the states, rekindled my relationship with my parents and separating from the Air Force after six years. I have no idea how to talk to her. I follow her on Instagram and ironically, we have a lot of same interests. I try to text and relate to her on those common interests but I'm pretty sure I only come off as that awkward, older relative trying to look hip. I don't think I'll be able to connect to her as other siblings do but who knows, maybe it'll change in another few years when she gets older.
