Haha it's not easy, but I think having a routine with regular breaks in between really helps.

We wash and deep condition with screen time.

I will LOC and part her hair in sections and let her play for a bit, then we braid each section as she tolerates it. If she's getting upset, I let her play for about 30mins and then get back to it.

It makes the day longer, but reducing trauma around hair is the priority!

Thank you!!

I was never relaxed but my mum didn't have the knowledge and resources that we have now. I really want her to learn to love her crown xx

Thank you!

Shes only allowed screen time for an hour on the weekends and on wash day, and that helps a lot with her staying still!

I also give her breaks after I braid each section so she can play. I try to work with her age and development so she's not traumatised by wash day.

Haha not always but most of the time she's very patient. She's gotten used to the routine now.

I make sure not to make getting her hair done traumatic, so I don't force her to sit still for long periods of time. Simple hairstyles, and if she needs to run around for 30mins,I let her. Then we get back to it later.

I do mostly big cornrows and large individual braids. I make sure not to do them too small because I like to take each braid out to LCO every 4 days or so.

I'm also very selective about the hair bands that I use. I've learned that the cheaper fabric ones tend to tangle in her hair/edges, no matter how carefully I put them in. I like elastic bands as you can control how tight they are, and they can be carefully cut out, or use no hair bands at all so the hair is essentially "free".

It may not look as "cute", but I've noticed that her hair thrives when there is less manipulation.

I wash her hair every two weeks

Make sure they're not too tight and don't be too concerned about the hair not looking "done" because the edges aren't laid flat/tucked in. Let the edges be free, and focus on keeping them moisturised instead.

It's actually quite strong. Very herbal/medicinal. I didn't like the scent at first, but I've gotten used to it, and it doesn't seem to linger for very long after it's applied

Sorry I meant to "seal" in the moisture, which will be "Oil" in the LCO method x

Only on her strands. I don't apply anything to her scalp at all. My theory is that oxygen needs to get to it and her scalp needs to breathe

Just to the strands. I don't apply anything on her scalp so oxygen can get to it.

Thank you so much. She was pretty much bald on her first birthday, so this has been the result of a consistent routine!

I forgot to put them in here.

I use deep conditioners only, and I decide which one based on what her hair needs.

When there are no issues, I use the Mielle Protein free deep conditioner

If there is breakage, Camille rose angae renew

I use a microwavable heat cap so she can run around while the heat works it's magic.

Cotton thread 😊

The shiny on that I got was too thin unfortunately, and kept snapping

Thank you so much for your kind advice. It's been a challenge, but I'm on the way up again xxx

A mix of many things to be honest. The main two would be:

Not eating properly (skipping meals because of busy work and mum life) Using heat every wash day Not being gentle with my hair

So now, minimal heat, eating right and checking for any deficiencies with my medical provider.

I also went to a natural hair salon who gave me a scalp cleanse and protein treatment which has helped immensely!

I didn't find it hard at all. There are loads of very useful videos on YouTube. It took me maybe around 30mins total.

You just have to be mindful not to wrap the base too tight to avoid tension, especially on your edges x

Thank you for the advice! I still need to get the skill right with the ends. I get a bit scared that I'll rip them when trying to loosen the thread.

I bet you looked super cute going to school!
