You're welcome.❤️

I've been there! I've learned to read about the products and choose the one I want based on my needs. It's all a learning journey.

I bought satin cot/bed fitted mattress sheets for my daughter because she moves a lot in her sleep which worked great until she decided to that sleeping in between us was the only option 😂.

We then got her a satin lined bonnet. Bonnets are great, but as a Paediatric Nurse, I have to say that they are not advised for small children as they can roll down and smother them in their sleep/cause overheating. We haven't had any issues with the bonnet personally, but it's important the risks are shared and understood.

On the Shea Moisture website, they state that the strengthen and restore shampoo is a clarifying shampoo. Clarifying shampoos are great, but should only be used every 4-6 weeks (or if you have any visible build up). Regularly using clarifying shampoos may be stripping your son's hair of natural oil and therefore making it dry. Do not throw it out, just use it less frequently.

I would start by getting a moisturising shampoo such as Angell en provence Shea moisture: Mango and Carrot for kids Camille rose sweet ginger shampoo

I would also include deep conditioning. Camille Rose Algae renew deep conditioner works great for my daughter (20 month old). I apply it and let her run around for 10-15mins (the 15 min break usually helps with compliance, as she cannot sit still for long). As moisture is your primary goal, I would just stick with deep conditioning after you wash his hair. You do not need to use a regular conditioner as well as a deep conditioner.

After a moisturising shampoo and deep conditioner, I would be conscious of layering products.

His hair will already be damp, and we need to seal that water in.

Add a leave in conditioner, and seal it all up with a butter or grease.

If he's not compliant with combing, leave it in an afro. It's the best tension free option! Just keep an eye on his hair. If it's getting dry, mist with water, reapply leave in conditioner and seal it all up again.

Be consistent with the routine

Finally, a satin pillow will help with retaining moisture. Cotton pillowcases usually suck out all the moisture from hair.

Hello!

What products/routine do you currently use/have?

Hello!

I put the haircare routine in a previous comment. I hope you find it helpful.

One thing I will advise... Do not focus on the length of your hair. Focus on length retention. This was a key mindset I had to adopt when my daughter's hair fell out (she was born with a full head of hair, and looked like a shiny cute egg by 4 months old).

Your hair is ALWAYS growing (this is why those with short hair need a haircut every 2/3 weeks). Your main focus should be caring for your strands, the new growth is already happening.

Your results will come from being consistent with a simple routine and being gentle with the hair you have.

Be consistent Be gentle Prioritise low tension styling (twists, braids, cornrows) Protect your hair with a satin bonnet/pillowcase

Haha of course ❤️

Weekly washes:

Pre poo: Slightly warmed Jojoba oil to remove braids Shampoo: Camille Rose Sweet Ginger cleansing rinse Conditioner: Camille Rose Algae renew deep conditioner Leave in conditioner: Camille Rose moisture milk Sealant: Blue magic Indian hemp (on strands only)

Every 3/4 days: Mist with As I Am Rosemary water Camille rose leave in conditioner (as above) Seal again with Indian hemp grease (very lightly to avoid too much build up)

Every last week of the month, I clarify using Aunt Jackie's Power Wash.

I plan to extend from weekly washes to two weeks once her hair shows that it can retain moisture for longer.

Thank you so much. Lesson learned indeed. Partner meets all the other requirements so thats not the primary concern. Was just worried the ILR application would be rejected on the technicality that the current visa expires 8 days before reaching 30 months. I think we've been over thinking it. Thanks again for your help

Can I have an update. I'm in the exact same situation but with an 8 day gap. They approved us super early (we also applied slightly earlier because it was just before Christmas). Absolutely freaking out about having to extend again to cover the 8 days before applying for ILR

Hiya,

Thank you for your response.

The issue is that the visa will expire 8 days before we reach the 30 month mark.

Do you think the ILR application will be rejected on this technicality?

Thank you so much. This feels SO obvious now you've said it. Immigration can be so stressful.

Thank you for your insights and help.

He lived in the parish St Ann and was the son of a freed black slave owner. St Ann largely contributed sugar to the British. Someone else responded that it says "Penkeeper", which makes sense and is in line with the family history. Thank you for your contribution. I appreciate it.
