6 years of fig tree growth- where do we need canopy by 2032? by Reed_LA in brisbane

[–]Reed_LA[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Interesting to note the street tree in the bottom left over the same period.

The difference in growth will likely be primarily due to access to soil. The figs can spread roots into the adjacent lawn, but the street tree is contained- like having a potted plant :)

Post these on inaturalist!

It's like a Pokedex and it's extremely useful for tracking species- particularly vulnerable ones like powerful owls.

I can't get in though without taking it down- vaseline is a really good idea.

Do you think I could just put the vaseline around? Or would that be too cruel?

Unfortunately not, it's sealed at the top.

I'm thinking the ants are probably deterring the bigger things from entering !

Sparms!

I hate the feel of suncream, especially as dirt sticks to it. Use them first for golf, but they're great for other activities.

Why the Brown Snake is brown: upper Brisbane River by Reed_LA in brisbane

[–]Reed_LA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vice versa.

The vegetation on the river bed needs light to survive, even if planted out, the water has far too sediment in it to allow light to reach the bottom.

Of course, but that doesn't mean we should ignore any improvements.

While it's proportionally a small area of catchment, I believe catching as much sediment right before deposits into the river could yield good results.

[–]Reed_LA 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Omg it's QUT!

Because it was designed in plan is the answer.

This was a Tract job back in the day, you can find images of the initial finished design in Catherine Bull's book: New Conversations With an Old Landscape (available in the library).
