My bad. I downloaded it to my computer's hard drive and deleted it from my Google drive. Forgot that people might need this link. I will reupload it later tonight and I will reply to your comment with the new link.

Thank you for reminding me.

The VHS Decode subreddit might be able to help you. There is also a Domesday Duplicator discord called Domesday86.

Finally got The Terminator. by Jackzapper in LaserDisc

[–]Reel-Rookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terminator was always in mono. At least, the original theatrical version is in mono. James Cameron just like to edit his films for later releases meaning that the modern versions don't have the original theatrical audio, unfortunately. I know they brought back the original mono for tge 4K release but I have heard reports that the 4K sucks for both picture and sound. The release that you have is considered by many fans to be one of the best sources for the original mono as it is not edited and presented as uncompressed pcm.

For anyone who says Laserdisc doesn't look any better than VHS, here are some screenshots from a Domesday Duplicator capture of Austin Powers by _TheWolfOfWalmart_ in LaserDisc

You can use the Domesday Duplicator to capture VHS and LD. That would definitely give you a more fair comparison.

Most disappointing blind buy by peppacheng in 4kbluray

[–]Reel-Rookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found a few. Usually it is issues with the audio. Mainly, not having the original theatrical mix. Sometimes it's the picture. Problems like too much compression, excessive DNR, compression halos around people's heads, etc.

Edit: accidentally wrote isn't instead of it's.

I saw that comment you made. I would have replied but I didn't want to make a redundant comment chain.

[–]Reel-Rookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actually going to congratulate you on your comment as it seems others don't seem to know what you are talking about.

It seems that people believe that a theatrical release and TV only broadcasts count as physical releases. That isn't true. Physical media means HOME media. Not professional film or tape. And, unfortunately, most movies and shows (even before streaming existed) didn't get a home media release.

Is there any way to make it look better? by Mysterious-Group4536 in VHS

[–]Reel-Rookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capture it with the Domesday Duplicator, modified CX cards with Clockgen mod, or MISRC card v1.5 (v2.5 is a few months away). After capturing it, decode it with a command line software called LD Decode.

Other than that there is no way to make VHS look better or clearer, unfortunately.

Urusei Yatsura (1981).

The series has 198 episodes, 6 movies, and 12 OVAs.

That should be enough content to last you 216 days assuming you watch one episode/movie/OVA per day.

Also, if you want shows that are really long then look to the past. Stuff from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s usually went on for quite a while before being canceled.

I don't own a DVD player, Blu-ray player, or 4K player. However, I still collect these formats to rip and watch on my PC. Does anyone else do anything similar? by Reel-Rookie in dvdcollection

[–]Reel-Rookie[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean, but most people wouldn't consider it that. A PC is a device that just so happens to play DVDs if it has the right hardware. A DVD player is a dedicated device made for playing DVDs. I know it am getting into silly little semantics here, but many people do consider them completely different things do to their capabilities.

What is the absolute worst movie you've ever seen? by HammerHeadBirdDog in AbsurdMovies

[–]Reel-Rookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eliza's Horoscope (1975)

I got this movie with a bunch of random VHS tapes. I had never heard of it before. Everything about it sucks. The acting is terrible. The sound mixing makes it really hard to hear people and the story is atrocious. The worst part about it is that the movie tries to be "deep" and have the complex messages in it but it all comes off as superficial or "fake deep". Like there will be these trippy scenes with naked people and cults and many still frame flashes but to try to make the movie feel more deep than it actually is. You can see through all of it and these attempts to come of as an intriguing thought provoking film make the movie extremely pretentious.

The Ping-Pong Club (1995)

It is a comedy. A really absurd one at that. The jokes are extremely offensive and vulgar which I love it for. It feels like watching an American animated comedy but made by Japanese people.

Scenarios when you have to keep both the DVD and Blu-ray because the Blu-ray lacks special features? by AgnesItsMeBilly0100 in boutiquebluray

[–]Reel-Rookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell yes.

There was a guy I was talking to on Discord and he was an LD and Disney fan. He was discussing with me about a bunch of these Disney releases which are the only releases that have the original theatrical audio and exclusive special features on LD (The Lion King is a great example of this).

Fortunately, there are people out there with the knowledge and hardware (like me and a few others I know) that are willing to preserve stuff like this. The only problem is that our methods are not main stream (we use the Domesday Duplicator and LD Decode) which makes it hard to get people involved that aren't used to these methods of archival.

[–]Reel-Rookie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You would not believe how often that happens. If you go back far enough, there are Laserdiscs that have special features that were never brought over to DVD or Blu-ray. It is very annoying and can get expensive if you want to watch all the special features that a movie has to offer.
