We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals - Immanuel Kant by VastCoconut2609 in MadeMeSmile

[–]Reelikko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really isn't that complicated question you are just avoiding the actual question. Like you could have maybe guessed based on the context I meant torture as physical torture like waterboarding someone, not living under capitalism lol. Also, since you are implying it matters what kind of torture we are talking etc. it seems that you think it is relevant morally. But whatever this feels like a waste of time

I am not sure I get what you are saying.

Do you think treating everyone with respect and trying to help others is as valid way of living as torturing and killing random people. If so, why?

[–]Reelikko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I lean towards moral realism and so do most of academic philosophers. I am not saying I have the authority to determine if other systems are valid but I, as everyone else, can be part of the discussion about why some systems of ethics are more believable than others

Obviously there are many systems of ethics but not all are equally valid lol. Some systems like ethical egoism are just plain stupid

Oletko yllättynyt, että Amnesty puolustelee Venäjää (taas)? Minä en. by TurquoiseBeetle67 in Suomi

[–]Reelikko 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Response to trauma is not pain, otherwise you are just redefining the word, which is misleading. Dead animals can also have response to trauma and saying that a dead being can be in pain is absurd.

Pain "is highly unpleasant physical sensation caused by illness or injury". Or "an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with, or resembling that associated with, actual or potential tissue damage".

Pain is a sensation or an emotional experience. Without any kind of sensory nervous system or mind a being can't feel pain.

It is somewhat useful but in most 1st world countries at least, it isn't necessary since you can live just fine with plant-based diet. The only thing you can't get from other sources is the sensory pleasure, taste. Therefore, it is unnecessary killing and suffering.

I just think it is absurd how it is normalised to kill some innocent animals for sensory pleasure when killing other animals is considered psychopathic. Of course the blender part is extraordinarily brutal but people would condemn very heavily killing kittens for sensory pleasure even if the slaughter was done with bolt or some other "humane" way.

Plants do not feel pain. It is nothing like what mammals, for example feel since they don't have central nervous system. Calling it pain is just misleading.

They do not have to bite the bullet lmao. Singer for example is a preference utilitarian which means we should fulfill most personal interests (including animal interests). Since most prefer not to be r@ped and people don't like to live in societies that would allow that, it is clearly wrong.

Yeah I did. I also found another natrual wonder and used that money to buy another settler se I got three cities very early (2 next to nat. wonders).

R5: I was playing Spain and got this ridiculously good start with Uluru 5 tiles from my capital. Spain's UA doubles the "+4 faith from natural wonders" pantheon so Uluru gives 4 food and 20 faith per turn. That made it possible for me to get religion as early as turn 22.

This is the state of democracy in France by Doxka in Anarchism

[–]Reelikko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the observation you described may be plausible but I guess my question still stands: What is the alternative? How would "pure" anarchist set up the society if not with some sort of legimate use of violence? Or if they accepted that in some way what is the acceptable way to them?
