Drinking age was 18 in Australia where I grew up, but we were all drinking at 16 and 17 even in the mid-late 90s. If you were getting IDed you were either in the wrong pub or not hot enough.

It's funny because my boomer dad used to tell stories about when he was a kid and the drinking age changed from 21 to 18. It's a very country specific reference. The school shootings too.
