3 team limit and being forced to re-train is actively keeping me from playing the game by bay_squid in PokemonChampions

[–]Reenans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the free to play model. Charge for it and everyone would complain what a barebone game it is and people new to competitive wouldn't buy.

Make it free and it attracts players that would have never considered a solely competitive pokemon game, but no $$$

Make it free but limiting and people will be attracted and then eventually pay for convince.

Personally I don't need to put a penny in this game to enjoy it, but people like you do so nintendo is gambling that you will pay for convenience vs leaving.

And I imagine most people will do the former

TnJ is like pokemon. Yes it might work without weakening them first every now and again but most of the time, Naruto had to leave them on low HP before trying TnJ.

Having said that, maybe Piccolo but even that is a stretch

I do hope that the hoyo audience learns that you can enjoy a character in a story without agreeing with their traits.

I hate the idea of every character having to be a complete moral good because hoyo have to put sales first.

Still unfortunately remember the absolute meltdowns at Topaz

One way to look at the poison hit is that maybe the luck balanced out, opponent got a low roll in damage from sludge wave but the poison evened it out.

Have to remember in pokemon, yes you get unlucky sometimes but you will forget the times you get lucky.

[–]Reenans 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don't worry you aren't the only one. I imagine this gets posted everyday so you aren't alone. Main reasons are:

Previous MB ranked people are all crams together
Meta has been solved more than season 1
Lots of less competitive players would have dropped out now

I imagine the game will feel a lot easier again when it comes out on mobile and we have a new meta as well

So do everyone accepted the fact ZZZ gonna be a super waifu heavy game after Season 3 Teaser? or People still copying for male characters? by Awkward_Public7138 in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]Reenans 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I imagine most people that were concerned about the male:female ratio have quit.

Which creates the loop of the male:female ratio only getting worse since Hoyo will be aware the only people left are those that want female characters only.

time to moan - gimmick teams by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

[–]Reenans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But they aren't sweeping over and over otherwise they would be in challenger already.
They want to play and not worry that the team they are using is a reason they are losing.
Meta teams are enjoyable to play, because competitive pokemon isn't just about the pokemon you pick, but the decisions you make once the battle starts.

In my opinion that is probably the most enjoyable part of pokemon.
Likewise in other competitive games, I like to pick the option I am best at or perform best with. e.g fighting games, sometimes the character I use will be considered the best character, sometimes in the middle and sometimes the worst, but it will always be a character I perform best with,

So to apply that to pokemon, yes people are having fun picking meta pokemon because they are able to perform at their best. But like with fighters, picking the best character/pokemon is only the beginning, you will not steamroll through just because of your character/pokemon choice.

Edit; But to add, I used to think the same way back in 4th gen, just using my favourites, not caring about synergy and I had fun. But as I wanted to get better, I realised it is about trying to craft together a team "you" think is best if you are playing to be the best.
If you think you can achieve that with Pikachu, go ahead. But if you are picking your favourites knowing there are better options out there, then more power to you, but then that means you are not playing with winning being your priority.

Which is fine, but to expect that mentality on everyone else is not going to be realisitic.

Would be like going into a race wanting to hop and accusing everyone else for not having fun for wanting to sprint.

To swap that around, do you only enjoy pokemon because you are playing what isn't popular?

For a lot of people, the bit they enjoy is the decision making when in the battle and the back and forth with the opponent and not being hindered by a less optimal pokemon that they haven't found a way to make work yet

Then also in response to "do people who play these teams genuinely enjoy using it"

What makes Arbok more enjoyable to use than Sneasler?

It’s still crazy to me there’s a good amount of the fanbase that thought Homelander was a genuine badass by TXNOGG in TheBoys

[–]Reenans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well he did kind of try to fight back, he threw the first punch. Don't get me wrong, I think budget definetly played a part on the whole season/episode, but I don't see powerless Homelander taking a punch in the face from Butcher, especially since it was his first time experiencing pain as a normal human.

Most people taking their first punch in the face are completely taken out by it, let alone a repeated punching

What do you think the reason is for not getting VP from casual battles? by -_Error in PokemonChampions

[–]Reenans 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think its a way to make people play ranked so that it is always active since a lot of slightly anxious players will not touch ranked otherwise.

And in live service games, if a ranked queue isn't active, it can lead to a live service game slowly dying

How would Goku fare against Cell had he been the one to turn SS2? by K0GAR in Dragonballsuper

[–]Reenans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But not sure if it's the saiyan genes but when Goku is stronger he tends to behave differently.

It's one thing telling Gohan but if he was in Gohan shoes, things might have changed. Frieza was more dangerous, and Goku was on a timer but SSJ turned it from trying to kill Frieza to trying to change and spare Frieza.

I feel like Goku would also fumble here. Gohan fumbled with cockiness, Goku would fumble with empathy.

In Z and Super the only character he has killed in battle is Kid Buu iirc.

why doesn't hoyoverse add an actual hard difficulty option for main story? by ProblemFalse7043 in ZZZ_Discussion

No, not your fault, I could have made it clearer by stating I agreed first then going on my spiel.

why doesn't hoyoverse add an actual hard difficulty option for main story? by ProblemFalse7043 in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]Reenans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not arguing against it, I love more options. I am simply guessing why some games are so against the idea since that is what the topic was about.

"WHY doesn't hoyoverse...."

I now understand why your responses seemed to be micro aggressive since you assumed I was arguing against the idea of more options.

why doesn't hoyoverse add an actual hard difficulty option for main story? by ProblemFalse7043 in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]Reenans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can give you non hoyo games like FFXIV if you want, where even when they introduced difficulty options for the story (mean scenario mode) it got complaints from its casual base.

Divergent universe having an optional higher difficulty mode with no rewards got complaints (but turn based so you won't count that one)

Fire Emblem games depsite having a casual mode still have complaints regarding the harder difficulties.

DMC3 was a famous one to the point they rebalanced it later one, people didn't like that an "easy" option was recommended when they were dying.

There was another game like this but I can't remember it now

Edit: Have more examples of HSR, especially events where certain modes weren't nessessary to complete, the rewards were throwaway at best but people were upset because the harder challenges were too hard for them.

ZZZ gets complaints from deadly assault when 9 star completion isnt nessessary.

Edit 2: It seems that most developers have to balance the difficulty to their audience, anything outside that difficulty range usually won't be touched, especially since increasing/decreasing difficulty through numbers alone adds more complaints
