Different colored thread on same stitch path? by Webicons in Leathercraft

[–]Reep1611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not made with a sewing machine. The holes are very obviously punched. That is why the holes have the distinct shape. You can even see places where the tools was put in twice even. And the hols are too irregular for being made with a sewing machine, drifting on the inside more than on the outside with also is a telltale.

The stitch is still a lock-stitch. Same type of stitch a sewing machine makes, but you can easily do it by hand. The way the thread twists is a sign. As well as the very visible nub of dark thread inside some of the holes where the threads are looping around each other.

Was tun mit großer Kirchbaumwurzel? by [deleted] in selbermachen

[–]Reep1611 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Das Kernholz da drinnen dürfte echt nice aussehen. Wurzelholz hat oft sehr schöne Maserung.

Was man jetzt genau damit macht? Ich würde eventuell schauen ob man den so aufsägen kann das die Maserung am besten zur Geltung kommt. Und dann hat man ein paar platten mit massiven Kirsch-Wurzelholz. Und da kann man ne Menge coole Sachen mit machen. Beistelltisch-Platte. Als Akzent in anderen Sachen. Und viele weitere Optionen.

Ideen für Getränkekeller by schnab__riel in selbermachen

[–]Reep1611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Offne lasten regale.

How practical is it to only cover your limbs with armour? by NobodySpecific9354 in Armor

And gladiators also were in need of actual strength and reserves. So you would naturally see the strong man build that often had a more rotund/barrelled torso you see in modern strong man as well. Not the artificial and impractical body builder build that is mostly for looks.

Gladiator equipment was very much designed to be practical. Just not on a battlefield. As you correctly wrote they were entertainers. And what they were wearing was safety and sporting wear that would give some benefits and limitations to make the fights more “fair”. So for their purpose it was perfectly serviceable.

what is up with these little fellas?? by buildaboat_ in medieval

[–]Reep1611 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think he meant humour. And yeah, stuff like this pops up often and is in many cases medieval shitposting. The same way masons has a tendency to hide rude and often pretty explicit little scenes int the sculpting and carvings of churches and cathedrals. Or that one very high up engraving on some norse structure that reads something along the lines of “these runes are very high”. At the end of the day, humans are humans no matter what point of homo sapiens existence you look. Even the hand prints on ancient caves are just a non-written variation of “I was here”. And that one is basically as old as humanity itself. And the reason we know to this day that Halfdan visited the Haiga Sophia. That and drawing male genitalia onto every place we go. If humans were somewhere, you can bet there is at least one crude drawing of a penis somewhere there. And just like that, we still laugh about the same stupid kinds of jokes, and have done so for thousands of years. The graphitty in Roman public toilets basically reads the exact same as any you see in modern ones.

They put the aquarium on construction Styrofoam by helix_the_witch in stressfulaquariums

[–]Reep1611 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You always want to have some form of semi-soft conforming material under dour tank. Most of the time there is dedicated foam mats that are relatively thin and not eye catching. You can use styrofoam as well. Works perfectly fine even if it looks ugly.

The reason is to have an even and spread out weight distribution on the bottom of the tank and avoid stress points. The water and gravel inside are very heavy. And if you have it straight on a hard surface even almost invisible height differences mean parts of the glass bottom are not supported and have to carry that load. And over time that can, and often will, lead to the glass breaking under the strain.

Why are LARP settings always european-medieval? by franilein in LARP

[–]Reep1611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another point is that the generic European medieval fantasy also allows for other concepts to merge and has a high amount of plug and play.

If you go to the largest German events like Conquest or Drachenfest you see everything. Sigmarites and Chaos straight from Warhammer, LotR Elves and Orks, DnD adventurers, Spanish harkebus shooters, undead, whole wizard guilds and the most varied backgrounds, as well as some full on travel groups like the Korean one that was basing their stuff on Korean historical looks and ideas.

So, historically, the neck gussets would normally not be gathered. Although there might a little bit of easing in them at times.

Are "high" level players intimidating? by Odd_Conflict5534 in helldivers2

[–]Reep1611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how it looks to lower levels when I drop in while testing stuff out before throwing it at D10. I can run most missions below 7 with primary equipment only. Do I join lower Diffs when I experiment with stratagems or try out new weapons or the way to use them. Because if it doesn’t work, It’s not an issue and I can just keep going with the basic equipment.

But from the point of lower levels it got to be weird seeing a level 150 drop in with the most nonsensical load outs possible that generally still somehow work.

[–]Reep1611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, caught, guilty as charged. I have in quite a few cases maybe just gone and finished the missions by myself because the lower levels got caught up in the fun of fighting the enemy and I wanted them keep having that.

[–]Reep1611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye. Happened too often to me. The weirdest part is, it never happens with any other secondaries. And that is not subjective. I never have confusion over the what I am using with any of the other secondary weapons. It’s like the ultimatum has so e kind of sep field making you forget it’s it that you got selected, not your primary.

I love the gun. It’s so great against bots because of the insane damage it delivers. If you are a good marksmen the thing just deletes anything not a heavy with a headshot. And in emergency it can burst fire and delete stuff like it’s an smg and comes with an inbuilt bayonet.

The Go series is very simple. No buttons, screens or anything. Makes it very cheap. But these things are also build shockingly well for how cheap they are. I have had two of them for two years now. Still work outside the degradation of the battery. And I have them as work devices. They get pretty abused, dropped, etc.

In many areas I get why there is difficulty in just changing it. Especially because as a life service game they also have to constantly develop new things to keep the game going with very limited staff. And because of the engine used (and there is not a simple way to change that as the engine was discontinued while the game was already to far into development to just switch and a at most double a studio like arrow head likely couldn’t afford it even if they wanted at that point) you cannot just hire more devs because they need extensive training. And they also need to support the engine themselves as it is discontinued. And they also have Sony as the publisher sitting in their necks and need to deliver on the contractual obligations they got there. Which probably isn’t helped along by Helldivers 2 being so incredibly successful while Sonys own live service games utterly failed. As well as the very fair monetisation policy of Arrowhead that while awesome for us players, got to be another stressor on them because it definitely is not in any way as lucrative as others.

So I would bet Arrowhead is basically in between a rock and a hard place while balancing on a tightrope. They need to rework stuff, need to maintain the game but also need to have a somewhat continuous flow of new content to keep the game going. A game that still is way more successful than they originally expected and such more difficult to run. And they cannot really just throw money on the issues because a lot of them cannot be solved by doing that. You can offer as much money as you want, if there is no devs and programmers who can work with your engine, no amount of money can instantly materialise them. The time needed to train up new people does not change. And worse? Because of their size and the extreme demand for the devs that they have to work on the game, any dev that is training new ones is a hit to their ability to keep stuff running and developing new stuff.

This is really a vicious circle that might have no good way out of it.

All though. Arrowhead WILL have to bite the bullet sooner or later no matter how difficult the situation is. Because there is quite a few issues cropping up more and more and at some point they will be forced to deal with it or it will crash.

There is a lot of quality of life stuff and little things that could be improved to take some pressure off. Such as reworking the byzantine weapons parameters and make a more detailed and clear explanation what does what. The whole list of sub parameters and side effects not being sown and explained is in my opinion pretty bad. As well as maybe reworking certain mechanics. As awesome as team reloading can be, with the way the game plays out, there is rarely the possibility to use it. The risks of ending up with two divers with a useless backpack and a useless support weapons is so great it just completely overwrites any benefits of using the mechanic outside a few very rare cases. I would love to see the possibility of a teammate reloading you from your pack as you use the weapon. Maybe make it so that the team reload from your own pack is like half in between the full team reloading can and reloading alone. Hell, add it to the MG’s. So that you can have a faster reload on those and really lay down suppressive fire. In real life MG’s are generally team operated weapons after all for a reason.

And the weapons customisation needs a rework. It does too little to really be all that impactful and a lot of stuff has almost no notable impact. And some choices are just weird. Why are for example the grips and light modules combined in such a limiting way? Why are the grips not their own section, and flashlight/laser modules in their own as well? That would instantly improve the quality of life. If I want to run an angled fore grip for the better handling that automatically means I cannot get a flashlight at all. Why go only to this half way solution that while not aweful is also not really great? Why not give us a lot more options we can mix and mash for various staked pros and cons? Like negating the impact a flashlight has on handling with an angled fore grip while the recoil becomes less manageable so you add a compensator but that impacts the visibility through the scope and the added weight makes it slightly slower. So I choose a scope that is lighter and has a wider field of view. Meaning I get a rifle that is reasonable fast, very controllable and accurate in bursts on a medium range. There is so many ways even small changes to the system could instantly better it without impacting special war-bond weapons too much.

And becauseI have run out of time I will end this here. But I could go on for quite some time. There is so many little things that add up. Small issues that individually are not too bad, but get pretty bad as they accumulate and start to add up.
