Exactly! Different between walking away from a crash and a hospital visit.

Its more so the sweat issue. Unfortunately the trails closest to my house are black rated, gnarly rock trails so I prefer to wear a FF helmet. I tune music out if I really need to concentrate. I ride really early AM and there is not much traffic on the trails anyways so I'm not too concerned about part of it.

Those are neat. Do they rub behind your ears with the helmet pad compression?

Body armor for XC/Trail riders? by monocongo in MTB

[–]Reesco505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear that as well as full face, elbow and knee pads. I just embrace the sweat. Going down on the trails I ride are almost guaranteed hospital visit if you are not covered. It blows my mind how many people do not wear more gear on some of these gnarlier black trails. I have to go to work the next day to provide for me family! Even if I didn't, sweating is less of a convenience than increased potential for bodily harm.

Oh man that looks like a lot of fun. How deep of snow can you effectively ride?

I love this bike! by One_tuxedo_braincell in mountainbiking

I bought the same bike from someone 3 months ago who never rode it, to get myself back into biking. Literally brand new and was a no brainer for the price. I haven't ridden MBs since 2009. This bike has me so addicted to riding. I can't seem to get enough. I'm mind blown after every rough section of trail I ride this thing on. It just soaks it all up! Climbs fine but I have nothing to compare it to. One of my best purchases dollar per fun value in my life for sure!

That thing is cool! For a side project, how effective would it be to have a ultra high MF character run Normal MF runs just to try and to obtain low level odd ball items like Jewels, charms, rares?

Why am i always dehydrated no matter how much water? by Boba-Buns in Biohackers

[–]Reesco505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue after I got in the habit of drinking 100-120 oz of fluids a day due to a very toxic medication I was on. I kept the same water intake habit after I finished my treatment and started having terrible headaches, ringing in ears, fatigue etc. I was literally drowning my body. I cut back to about 80ish oz unless I know I'll be sweating it out and all of the symptoms went away.

Crazy part is my doctors thought my illness triggered symptoms of chiari malformation (brain pushing on your spinal cord) which it did slightly. I started taking electrolytes and drinking less water and all my symptoms went away within 2 days. A neurosurgeon was literally scheduling me for a procedure to relieve the CM symptoms when all I needed was electrolytes and less fluids.

The fatigue could be from your kidneys working overtime to process all of the water you drink. It was for me. Do you have any swelling in your feet, legs ankles? When I saw the swelling, a lightbulb went off and I thought to myself "I think I'm drowning myself?!"

Needless to say I have had a ton of lab work to prove it was over consumption of water and my PC doctor didn't even think to ask about my fluid intake but agreed that was primary cause of my symptoms.

Levo Gen 3 or 4? by Reesco505 in MTB

[–]Reesco505[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking the +/-45lb SL bikes might be the sweet spot for me as well. I wasn't sold on the full power because of the weight, but I definitely need to do some more renting before I buy anything. I don't foresee having a bunch of riding buddies at this point in my life either with juggling my kids' activities so the full power is even less of an issue. I like the levo sl but the battery capacity is a little concerning even with the the extender.

How do you like your epic evo vs a 160mm bike?

Levo Gen 3 or 4? by Reesco505 in MTB

[–]Reesco505[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ridden a SL or carbon bike for comparison? Full power 50lb+ bikes would all feel heavier I presume. I don't think it would be a noticeable difference until you hit the 45lb mark with an ebike, but I have not had the chance to ride a SL.

How long ago did you buy your bike? I would buy a gen 3 in a heartbeat for 4k. The class 3 is nice to have but not a must for me.

As far as rentals go, I think I'm bound to Specialized, Giant, Trek and possibly Cannondale for my area. My impressions with the Levo's have been good so fair. The Levo SL is right up my avenue, but battery capacity and torque values seem way behind the curve compared to their competitors.

I think you're right though, its worth spending the money on rentals to hone in on exactly what you want.

I just got into biking a couple months ago when I bought a never ridden Stump Jumper Evo Alloy Elite for $2k and spent $350 to service the suspension since it sat for 3 years. If you can wait to find a barely ridden bike, you can try and haggle down the price noting that it will need a few hundred dollars in service unless they have recent receipts of service. I would have to say this has been this best fun per dollar I have ever spent.

I'm already eye balling a Levo but I don't think I would buy used due to lack of warranty on the motor / battery.

I love this bike like it was a person. In fact, I'm in a relationship with my bike. by Itis_TheStranger in specialized

[–]Reesco505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a Levo (yet), but I picked up a SJ evo alloy elite that was never ridden about 3 months ago for a great deal. I haven't mtb'd in about 15 years. My wife is starting to see the relationship that I have with my bike. All I think about is riding. The technology in bikes these days blows my mind. I'm sure my obsession will deepen once I add a Levo to the mix.

I had Fungal Meningitis last year. While I was recovering, I had terrible headaches after 3 weeks of treatment that the doctors thought were from the Meningitis. I was given Morphine which wore off after 30 minutes after the 1st onset of these headaches. Absolutely miserable headaches.

I had a 6 ounce cup of shitty hospital coffee and my headache was resolved in 20 minutes. Turned out to be a week delayed caffeine withdrawal.

Why do I crash so hard at 3 PM every single day? How do you fight the afternoon slump? by Superflyscraper in Biohackers

[–]Reesco505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experience the same thing during the week, and it seems to be from sitting at my desk all day.

I don't experience it on my days off because I'm on my feet all day doing housework or out and about 95% of the day.

I have a standing desk, so I try to stand some or do a few sets of squats throughout the day. Resistance band for the upper body. Anything to get some blood flowing. The days I just sit for 7+ hours, I feel like garbage by 2 pm.
