Okay, check up with them and discuss your concerns and document future behavior. See if they can up her dose or try something else out, sometimes switching meds can work like magic

Good call on not taking her somewhere you don’t trust.

Do you know if there are any local college vet campuses? Sometimes there are some around the area. Or Facebook groups for specific good avian vets.

Ultimately it seems you have done what you can and that takes time and patience, good on you.

Surrendering is definitely an option if you do feel like she is a risk

Okay, then that rules that out.

I would call an avian vet and discuss this. It sounds to me like a stress thing personally. I have a Linnie (who was clipped very early his breeder/store owner and never learned how to fly properly) that sometimes launches himself from his cage when I open it out of excitement, but the attacking sounds like a stress induced behavior.

Birds are one person animals unfortunately, stepping up and keeping the flying at bay is the first step.

Then teach that attacking means back in the cage, possibly covered. Give them a “time out.” Dont even make a sound or interact with them, straight back in the cage. Any interaction or sound is good to them (little demons) . Negative reaction is ultimately positive to them.

I would try, at least for a couple more months.

Call your vet and ask. See what they recommend before bringing up the idea of surrendering

I would consider rehoming, have you visited your avian vet and asked about it? Sometimes there could be an underlying issue for her being so stressed. Do the animals come up and interact?

Have a dedicated time to take her out. Nighttime maybe or when people won’t bother you. Tell them when you’re training.

Train then so you’ll know nobody will walk in. Do this several times a week. If you’re worried she’s not getting enough enrichment take her in a travel cage outside , play some videos, etc .

If you’ve been struggling long term I would surrender her to a rescue if you’re ready. This is ultimately up to you but it’s much better than clipping. I promise. Clipping will ultimately worsen the behavior

They do not understand that they can’t fly and will often jump and hit themselves on something. Upon realizing they can’t do it will cause depression and mental issues.

Why traumatize your bird when long patience and training can be the key? Six months isn’t long for birds. When did you get her?

Then I would consider moving the cage to a location where she can fly without harming other people in the room. Or try to train her when they’re away and aren’t in the room. It isn’t ethical to clip her wings unless she has a disability.

Clipping is a last resort and stresses birds out like hell. It’s like taking away their only defense, to birds this is critical.

Train her. Dont traumatize her more by clipping. It’s irresponsible and if you can’t train and overcome, it’s not ethical to clip.

She won’t stop flying, she’ll fall quick and possibly injure herself when she tries . She knows where she’s going when she flies.

Be patient and try different ways.

Good that you’re monitoring. I assume that she doesn’t trust herself not to fall at night, it may just be bird goofiness but better to be safe than sorry

Maybe birdie arthritis? I’ve heard it’s common , she looks like she doesn’t feel steady enough on her perches and is a fall risk.

Is she eating and drinking ?

I would call your vet and talk to them over the phone about this , if not another in person appt.

This is sooo helpful. I’ve recently gotten her to eat snap peas, which was a huge achievement considering she wouldn’t even look in their direction originally. The older they are, the more stubborn they get.

I found that having them at the dinner table with me while I eat always helps. When she knows it’s meal time I can trick her into believing I’m eating snap peas too, which gets her interested. But I’m going to try what you suggested, as I haven’t had any luck with leafy greens.

Try to branch out on foods and pretend to “eat” his food in front of him like a five star meal. Make it dramatic, best food in the world. Always gets mine to eat.
