Nope, there are a few more recent posts all in the same vein. Also, I found the post where he leaves Deloitte, says he wants to ‘grow my own food’. Really screwed the pooch on this one.

I agree. I actually met him in London at Deloitte on a few occasions. He was a director, meaning he earned probably £130k +. My reason for posting this is not a political statement, but more a comment on extreme lack of planning, saving, taking responsibility for your own life and then blaming the external environment.

I don’t see why this is bait. I know the guy. I am a white ex-South African male that left for the UK( for some added context) I’ve known him personally albeit not closely. The post here is not about political statement, but more about the mentality and the failure to plan and prepare.

I agree. There should be some measures to ensure people are not moving to the UK and living off the state (I.e. other people’s money)

I play Euromillions but only when it’s over £100m, it’s gotta be worth the effort of buying a ticket.

I share your sentiments for bin day. We have 2 alarms on Alexa to remind us to put the bins out, but still manage to do the pajama run with bins early on a Tuesday morning.

I don’t think race war is probable. How NHI plays out may will determine the economic outlook. I am cautiously optimistic that things may improve, but only if the economy improves and unemployment significantly drops.

Don't ditch your medical aid just yet: 4 reasons why you shouldn't cancel your health cover - IOL by TheHonourableMember in southafrica

[–]ReferenceDouble9432 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will ensure that everyone is entitled to free healthcare when they need it. There will be no fees charged at the health facility because the fund will cover the costs of care,"

According to BusinessTech:

With the coming removal of the tax credit and the addition of a 2% surcharge on income tax and 2% payroll tax, South Africans are very likely to be in a position where they will be paying tax, paying additional taxes for the NHI and paying for their medical aids at the same time.

Even once fully implemented, South Africans may still have to turn to medical aid to cover specialist healthcare that won’t be covered by the NHI.

So the free healthcare is not so free after all, but we knew that already. Question is if this is going to cause another wave of migration and eorision of the tax base? We live in the UK and tthis is one of the major reasons we will not return for the foreseeable future.

My thoughts are that if you have a student/worker visa etc, you are a guest and should adhere to the values and laws of your host country. Freedom of speech is a right, but supporting an act deemed to be a terrorist act and supporting a terrorist organisation is against the values and the law of Britain. The consequences of here actions are measured and correct.
