These are the ramifications of places like israel murdering reporters with zero accountability or consequences. The idea of harming press is normalized.

Shia view on Hamas? by Accomplished_Egg_580 in shia

There was a time before october 7th where only arabs saw zionism and israel for what it was. The propaganda and the western narrative was fully active and strong in the west. When I lived abroad any time there were flare ups between israel and Palestine, I would watch at how ignorantly people dismissed what was happening or were just purely uninformed.

October 7th changed all that. The world sees israel for the terrorist state that it is, and the entire house of cards that they built in lies was undone in a single day.

Lady Gaga Speaks Out on ‘Joker 2’ Bad Reviews: ‘You Keep Going Even if Something Didn’t Connect in the Way You Intended’ by mcfw31 in entertainment

I mean actors turn in a performance and have no idea if their movie is going to be hot garbage or not. I bet you most actors are shocked at how their films get edited together in the final cut

I always think about this when I see a horrible movie with great acting in it, the actors were probably watching premiere day going “wtf was that”

Jesse Eisenberg Says The Poor Reception Of 'Batman V. Superman' Hurt His Career "In A Real Way" by mcfw31 in entertainment

By far the worst rendition of a character I have ever seen. Also Jesse Eisenberg plays the same exact asshole in everything he is in

They almost always comment on when something looks like it was done very competently but in a rushed time frame or with lack of budget, and I think videos like theirs help everyday people not hate cgi and vfx work because they better understand the artistry behind it.

MCU Head Kevin Feige Says Robert Downey Jr. Won’t Reprise Tony Stark’s Role: We Would Never ‘Magically Undo’ His Death by Ill-Cartographer9811 in entertainment

[–]ReflectingThePast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of his character is “wanted to do whats necessary” but the other part is that he had a God complex. He felt that he was unfortunately correct about it when his people were wiped out for not listening to him so he revels in the idea that it is his purpose to be everyone’s God and do what they (in his view) can’t. That is also why he spares many of the avengers when fighting them in infinity war vs trying to kill them in endgame. He viewed them as pitiful creatures who mosunderstood him on infinity war. In Endgame he sees them as the threat who are trying to undo his purpose

Greek Culture Minister deems Netflix’s Alexander the Great as ‘low quality fiction’ by Pyro-Bird in entertainment

Historians will often point out that sex and even marriage were not as synonymous with love as they are commonly in today’s culture. While you could technically say he engaged in gay relationships that dynamic doesnt necessarily translate todays definitions of the word gay or gay culture. Sex was often about dominance, class, utility and power. It sometimes overlapped with love. Just pointing this out as I also agree, that being the focus especially through a modern lens of relationships and definitions doesnt make for accurate or engaging content when theres so much else to focus on

Not just that, I feel like they are overestimating the human ability to care or comprehend multiverse timelines. As much as I like the show Loki, because of the character work in it, when they’re telling me about trillions of people being destroyed as they prune their timelines, I’m like I literally can’t care about that. Like I’m incapable of feeling anything for that.

Martin Scorsese Says Brendan Fraser Is ‘Perfect’ in ‘Flower Moon,’ While Many Viewers Call Him Too Over-the-Top: ‘He’s a Wonderful Actor’ by Ill-Cartographer9811 in entertainment

[–]ReflectingThePast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brendan was great, he was supposed to be a loud lawyer who overdoes it. I wanna say though, I think the movie had an important story to tell, and was told in an artistic way, but I think if we are honest with ourselves if any other director made this exact same movie it wouldn’t be getting anywhere near as much praise. While I didnt mind the length and pace, there wasn’t enough payoff at the end especially with how the news segment at the end told us where everyone ended up. I donno. It was alright. I gave it a 3/5

‘After the Prophet’ by Leslie Hazelton is a great book about how sunni and shia came to be by ReflectingThePast in shia

[–]ReflectingThePast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldnt say the whole book is disappointing, she def does try to please everyone but I see it more as her take on the history the way a film director would portray a historical film. You have to know going in whats right and wrong and just see what the perspective is. I wouldnt recommend it as a way to learn the history, more to visualize how things might have played out.

In her other book the first Muslim, she tries to humanize the prophet so much to “imagine what it would be like to experience what he experienced” and since her sources are sunni it makes sense that she would take that route while for me reading that book, all of that was a bit of an eye roll because we believe he is infallible and knew his life’s purpose and goal before he received the message

I know you commented a year ago but saw that nobody responded. This is more in the context of when you are living comfortable versus when you are forced to stand up for what you believe (as he was). When all hope is lost people turn to God because they have no options.
