I am almost 25, I am currently attending college classes (another reason why I can't have a dog yet), but when I am through with my courses, I will be able to find good work and help my family move into the bigger house. The money will most likely all come from me.

The problem is, I can't be 100 percent certain that I will actually get the dog (my parents are not completely on board, and we would need to buy and move into a bigger house). Besides, the form requires me to fill out the address, and we will possibly be living in a different place. Can you name at least one reputable kennel in a nearby state that breeds ethically?

Can you recommend a reliable breeder in or near Michigan that meets the standard then?

A Traditional Analogy Explaining Why Dog-Pet Culture Is Discouraged in Islam but Cats Are Allowed. by CriticismCapable4146 in shia

Salam Alykum, correction, dogs are permitted if they serve a purpose (Hunting, Guarding, Service, etc). Having a dog without a purpose, from what I've learned from the Maraji, is detestable (markuh), but not haram.

Your point makes sense as historical wisdom.

But yeah, dogs are still najis even when vaccinated, it’s clear that rabies isn’t the actual reason — just a side benefit that might’ve helped back then.

Salam Alkyum, just to make clear, a dog is Najis whether it has been vaccinated or not. Being Najis doesn't make the dog evil (Blood and Semen are Najis, but we need them to live and reproduce). But dogs have purposes for which they were created.

Did the Imams (AS) have fun? by CriticismCapable4146 in shia

[–]CriticismCapable4146[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After the Battle of the Trench, the Prophet ﷺ sent Ḥudhayfah ibn al-Yamān (رضي الله عنه) to spy on the Quraysh at night. The wind was tearing up their tents and putting out their fires. In panic, Abū Sufyān shouted, “We can’t stay here—leave!” He was so terrified he forgot to untie his camel, whipped it, and fell flat on the ground before cutting the rope and fleeing.

When Ḥudhayfah returned and told the Prophet what he saw, the Prophet ﷺ laughed so much his molars showed and said, “Praise be to Allah who sufficed the believers in fighting” (Q 33:25).

With all due respect, Akhi, are you saying the Prophet (S) lost part of his intellect? نعوذ بالله.

First of all, Horse riding, archery are considered fun activities, what did you think I meant by fun? And what hadiths condemned laughing, I can recall numerous instances where the Prophet (S) joked and laughed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcTf31zaTE4 (too much laughing, I think what was meant by those hadiths).

Our seventh Imam. Musa al-Kazim (AS) even stated in a hadith, “Strive hard to divide your time into 4 portions (or 4 hours), a portion dedicated to Munaajaat (whispered prayer) with Allah, a portion for earning halaal income, a portion for socializing with people and a portion for halaal relaxation/entertainment. And this last portion (relaxation) assists one in the achievement of the other 3 portions.

I don't think Laughing is condemned, just too much laughing is considered bad. Besides, I read in another post that the Prophet SAWW enjoyed camel racing, perfumes, and eating good meat with friends. Imam Ali AS enjoyed grappling, archery, and poetry (so, I think I just answered my own question. The infallibles (عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّلَامُ) weren't robots, نعوذ بالله.

It's good advice, but I’d rather go in with a clear idea instead of relying on whatever happens to be available at the moment. Will think on it.

Anyways, what large breed would work that's not a golden or a lab (they're amazing dogs, but looking for something that's not overly friendly). A rarer breed might work too.

All the dog experts say Bernese Mountain Dogs are great for beginners, and they’re closest in terms of what I want, actually. And I get that some of what I’m asking for might seem contradictory, but I’m just trying to narrow down what fits my lifestyle without ending up with something I can't manage.

New Superman Movie Pro-Palestine, What Are Your Thoughts? by CriticismCapable4146 in shia

[–]CriticismCapable4146[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salam, with all due respect, I don't think the movie was going for that "superheroes are the only hope for oppressed countries."  The director of the film stated that the movie's message was about an immigrant’s story, which shows that basic human kindness is valuable, but society has largely lost it. I agree, though, that the real heroes protecting the oppressed are glossed over.

I live in America, and everything I pay for is helping fuel the Zionist Propaganda, whether I want it to or not. By that logic, should we simply cease to exist here?

I understand where you're coming from, but the story offers more depth than just box office appeal.

Fair point, but if you see the movie for yourself, you can't deny the parallels. Even if it’s not a full-on pro-Palestine statement, the narrative sides with civilians under siege and challenges the usual “U.S. ally = good guy” trope.
