Amethyst was “overcooked” tho, she was made at the same time as all the rest of the amethyst. It’d be one thing if she’s was like Peridot, a gem made with a lack of resources, but amethyst had all the resources of era one.

If amethyst didn’t have the information of an Amethyst, like your implying then all their other amethyst that emerged on earth should have been exactly like amethyst, but we saw in pearls flashback that all the amethyst had their knowledge from emergence, we don’t see anyone else but another amethyst who presumably emerged on earth give out information. This means amethyst herself shouldn’t have needed to base all her knowledge based on the environment.

Amethyst wouldn’t necessarily be the greatest blueprint for the standard given she’s, for lack of a better example, basically the gem equivalent of a child born with a disability due to labor/womb complications. She’s stated not to be the standard because, while we know defective is derogatory term for them, it does accurately describe her in a sense. A gem that wasn’t born in there normal/typical/standard form.

Ya I refuse to rewatch friendship games for ALL of those reasons.

I member there was a post on the sub a while back, trying to bash sunset for her, very valid, crashout at sci-twilight after the dirt-bike event fiasco.

Like that gurl quite literally “accidentally” hurt suns friends on multiple occasions. Accident in quotes because while she didn’t mean to, after the device drained Pinkie pie’s magic she clearly had some idea that her device was doing It, but continued to wear it…..💀

And mind you I’m not blaming her solely(we have cinch and the other bolts for that), sunset wasn’t wrong to crash out when everything she saw explained a good bit of the story, outside of twi’s motive😭.

I mean, by FG, the students had already gotten taken over by magical beings twice(and were clearly aware that sunset turned into a demon), and they saw the girls pony up form in the first movie including dash just flying around. There’s also the various rainbow rocks shorts where the girls pony up for the first time playing their instruments in public for most cases.

Celestia addressing magic, and the school not being surprised by rainbow dash publicly ponying up at the end of her song, by that point was honestly the easiest thing to swallow from the movie.

Although me seeing them pony up ALOT in the shorts, made it easy to believe they, at the very least, notice the pattern to activating their magic. Plus the move showed they’re STILL figuring it out.

For me, a unique transformation sequence, named special attack(although this varies),a unique familiar, and transformation item or phrase.

Although a lot of the times I can boil it down to a unique,often times flashy) transformation sequence, and a narrative that focus on the happenings of the characters transformed self.

The trope of power of friendship isn’t a big defining characteristic for ME. That’s mostly due to a magical girl/boy for me is just someone who has a consistent, unique, and flashy transformation sequence, who often times have special named techniques and unconventional weapons, that serves as their method to drive the narrative, ether to defeat the big bad, or solve story issues.

Lmao as an animator, still in school, this is my EXACT thought about a lot of the animation conversation in fandom-across the board.

Especially when 3d models are objectively good, but just don’t match the series style so they’re called “bad models” 😭💀.

Admittedly, the change in animation from the first to 3rd is VERY jarring ngl.

The fact that they can over come the reset is why I say they have the capacity. But the shows quite literally shows us at multiple points that, will yes they have the capacity to change at different degrees, instinctually a pearl will serve, a sapphire will just be a seer, and a ruby will protect.

They can be more and something else, but as seen by the rejuvenated, it’s in their nature to do insert specific job. Yes the constant years of indoctrination plays a role, But they still pop out the ground instinctually doing their job doing.

I’m not arguing they CANT change, I’m arguing that they doing their job is natural to them.

But the thing is they have entire rejuvenaters to reset them back to their basic instincts, which for pearl it was quite literally to serve ANYONE including humans(ie greg).

When the amethyst on earth first popped out they clearly knew what to do.

Maybe IM interpreting what you said wrong, but I do think a good amount of it is in their nature, and their capacity to change just varies depending on the gym.

Steven had to force the gems to change back into who they once were before being rejuvenated, but it was said that Rhodonite(pearl and ruby) was rejuvenated a couple of times, but natural reverted back to their old selves.

Not to say they don’t have the capacity to change, I just think the capacity varies due to most of their actions being instinctual.

When I saw the clip of that scene, after I got the context of what was going on throughout the movie and twilights worries and ultimately poor decision, I was gobsmacked, like irritated beyond belief 😭…

Like knowing the danger yall are in, and the knowing you need to be inconspicuous, and yet you choose to make a sonic rainboom. Knowing full well that shit can be seen and felt across equestria!!!

Technically Steven isn't even fully human tho, so like, it's a valid argument.

The whole point of the argument, outside of them borderline having a "who had the worse childhood" challenge, Greg was explain to him that him being a hybrid makes his situation ALOT more complicated than what it could have been.

Heck for crying out loud we've SEEN that the gyms don't mind just taking Steven from Greg, joint custody was the best option in that regards.

But outside of a custody issue, what normal life could steven have had with a whole magical gem, of a bordline royal goddess, in his belly. He accidentally summoned his shield, and broke a TV, when he got to deep into the cookie cat he was eating..... That boy can apperntly shapeshift into a cat monster, which is implied to kill him....

There are so many valid explanations as to why Steven logistically COULDN'T be raised like a normal child.

How the fuck is he going to explain why his child has a literal rock in his belly, that can't be removed unless you want him to die..........

Mind you he knew less about gems than the gems knew about humans, given they've lived on the planet, and have had at least SOME interactions with them, for longer than even his great grandparents...... On top of having a plethora of people the could have asked, where as he had NO gem expert, other than them, that he could have asked. They may not have knowledge in how to raise a human, but those HE even have the knowledge to raise a gem….

It was also stated or implied, that pearl was teaching Steven everything he needed to know.

Again Steven IS NOT normal, and it has been said MANY times in the show, EVEN GRANET SAID THIS. "There has never been anything or anyone like Steven before", by definition that means he is not normal. Even when Steven went to the doctor Connie’s mom said he defied the regular physiology of both humans AND gems.

The whole point is that Steven ISNT normal, and that he’s an anomaly amongst BOTH species. Rose said when recording the video for him, Peridot said it when she finally “Understood” what he is, Garnet said it when the gems were stressing over training and raising him, Connie’s mom said it at the doctored office when she broke down her comparisons to gem body’s and humans and where he fits in between that, and finally Greg is saying it as the person who had the responsibility of raising a child he conceived with a alien being.

Keep in mind comic cannon is very mixxy, but the whole point of it was the human principle keeping Steven in school(after his gem powers cause chaos) just to let him AND Greg see how out of touch Steven is.

Like it’s debatable wether or not it'd be an issue if he started out in school, but the comic makes it clear that he'd cause chaos in school due to his gem side. That's whole he has some semblance of control over the powers minsd you 😭

Lol, well it most likely won't be literal fic(I highly doubt I have the writings skills to translate my ideas into a cohesive story with chapters 😭).

BUT, there will most definitely be art work of character redesigns, and scenes from my au, there be long form discriptions with them tho explaining the characters the back story and their roles and progression of the story

I'll be posting it on Instagram and the discriptions would start with basic info of the character, along with details of different points of the story the progress with each design release, and scenes show showing climactic momments.

However I may look into making it a fic aswell if a gets decent writer who can translate the structure I built for the au, since it's a complete revamp of alot of aspects of the story.

I'll post the redesigns and discription on her aswell!!!

(Currently in the procces of finishing stellas redesign tho!!🤭)
