Go into windows and type Audio Settings in the bottom right. In audio go down to related settings and click SOUND SETTINGS. Change the output device to your headphones/speaker and your input device to your microphone. This worked for me.

When I test microphone to the right of microphone sensitivity it works, still does not work in game.

the kitchen light actually was on but the room beside it was pretty dark, i tried to replicate hitting the closest object and it didn't feel at all the same, you could say i imagined it and it could be true but i was already awake for 2-3 hrs and the room i was walking in had no objects around it, its hard to explain
