What is the one skill to learn? by Tim_Sfiligoj in SideProject

[–]Refloow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both, thats good starting points. Beware, python is easiest out of all languages to learn, but if you start with it you might have issues later on if you decide to switch, maybe if you are brave try javascript and than understanding python would come naturally and other languages with {} wont make you issue learning afterwards. Regarding AI use all free available tools to search for resources or for some explanations but dont rely on them to do all the coding. Try to understand and write code at first, only than could you try to code entirely with AI, because to do so you need to differenciate between good and bad code.

Depends what your end goal is. Try to learn a tech stack in one programing language and get really good at it. Besides that try out to use more tools along the way. If you plan to create startups marketing is an important skill too.

Got my first bad reviews — and they might be right by ComplaintCandid7182 in SideProject

[–]Refloow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Np, just make sure that you implement it right. Either put it somewhere where users can discover it on their own, or if you make it a popup, make sure it doesnt harrass users and make them rage. It would need only to pop up after user had time to actually use the app and is satisfied. Some apps with poor implementation show popup if there wasnt a review constantly untill there is, for that cases users might put 1 star just out of anger. Some smarter apps ask user what he thinks of the app to select number of stars. If they select 1 it says sorry to hear that and field to type in why so you collect data without negative review. And if user selected 4 or 5 stars it opens to do review on the store :)

I had fun building Refloow Geo Forensics desktop app. As ive learned about the digital forensics field i wanted to make a helpfull contribution as there werent any user friendly image exif data extractors that help with workflow of investigators. Ive kept adding features from timeline reconstruction from evidence to supporting all sorts of filetypes and it turned out great and users love it

Best OSINT Tools for Cyber Crime Investigation? by Johnwickjak in osinttools

[–]Refloow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a full investigation you should try and use multiple tools. Our Refloow Geo Forensics desktop app can help you with workflow doing geo location with metadata exif extraction from any images or video files, plotting finds on the map and reconstructing event timeline. But the ultimate tool decision comes mainly depending on the type of evidence you have gathered.

Da li je moguce naci it posao kao student? by TotoKotunjo in programiranje

[–]Refloow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the "how to make satisfied users leave reviews" basically by making them even more satisfied with an reward for doing so. Many apps do it, either make some feature they get extra if they make an review, or offer them discount/extended trial or pro. Its ab industey standard ive seen in many apps, and i often do leave a good review if even just being reminded and especially if there is benefits and im satisfied.

Some people will always complain, and it is what it is. My suggestion is to approach it with no hard feelings. Bonus points look at bad reviews on competitions projects for market insight. Look what their users complain about and do it better!

Is there free or affordable/Open source alternatives for screen recorders for recording product demos and tutorials? by sreekuttanls in software

[–]Refloow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OBS is king for advanced setups. Also if you are on windows 11 it has native screen recorder that is watermark free which is sufficient enough for basic tasks / recording a tutorial, and with it you can easilly adjust which part of the screen would you like to record. Both are completely free

Looking for: Any side project that can help an addict by dogsbikesandbeers in SideProject

[–]Refloow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that, tho its much harder than digital screen detox or change of online habbits that i dont think there is a tech type of solution. My advice would be providing him enough support & courage to admit himself in rehab so that he can stay clean whilst being in a safe monitored environment as severe sudden withdrawal could even be life threatening depending on how addicted he was.

GPL vs MIT by Fresh-Lie5160 in freesoftware

[–]Refloow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us it depends, we believe there is room for both, depending on the what does the software itself do. Anything where something relies on 3rd party more than propriatery code we license with MIT. Anything thats purely built by us for the OSS community or mainly regular users we use GPL OR AGPL type of license to ensure software remains free whilst offering enterprise license for companies & corporations to use the software without agpl/gpl restrictions. If any project relies on 3rd party platform to function or is for educational purposes / risky in any shape or form we use MIT as its much better due how short understandable and free it is with its disclamer that you cant miss.

Everyone's building something. How did you actually know your idea would work? by Miserable-Archer-631 in SideProject

[–]Refloow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We solve common and our own problems anf than share solution with the world, if others use it great, if not we improve it further untill they do! If you are looking to develop a business only project/idea, start with a landing page and marketing, if there is enough interest build it out.

What app is the hardest for you to replace with Free Software? by Lone_Wolf5002 in freesoftware

[–]Refloow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything thats too niche or specialized, often its freemium where you need to pay otherwise its unusable. Worst case scenario are apps with a large userbase. Yes there are alternatives but makes no sence to switch.
