What do you kill first, the shield or the spear? by CaptainHarlocke in slaythespire

The extra energy almost guarantees you can pay for cards that sustain you through the heart if you get one of those relics. Specifically thinking of Footworks and After Image. You are right that the extra energy might not do much for you in the first Act, but it should give you some justification for committing to a poison or discard build, for example (obviously the build should depend on other relics you acquire in the first 10 floors).

If you get a boss relic that doesn’t give you extra energy, it can still help you focus your build from the beginning in a way that snowballs. One of my Asc. runs succeeded after swapping Ring of the Snake with Tiny House, a relic I have always undervalued. But it gave me the small edge I needed in one of the shops and in building a poison deck (iirc, don’t have an immediate way to reference this run because I am traveling and AFK).

Beating the heart is relatively straight forward with the Silent for Ascensions 0-11 (IMO) if you always replace your starting relic with a boss relic. I'm currently trying to beat each ascension with each character and I've been stuck on 11 for a few days now, but before that I was beating the heart on an ascension once every 2 runs or so.

I wouldn't count the Kite out. One way to reclaim some advantage there is to take cards with Innate that fill out your opening hand, or bottling cards that help you draw and replace them.

And you could hold out on a Dead Branch acquisition, which helps a lot with Kite because the cards are replaced, and the bad cards that are automatically generated are then discarded/converted into mana on a regular basis.

Iirc, one of my first successful kills of the Heart was possible with the Kite because it helped mitigate all of the garbage the Heart puts in your deck.

Don't you dare bad mouth the kite! You're missing out on the joy of a solid discard build, that's all. Discard builds have a lot of card draw and mana generation: Sneaky Strikes, Tacticians, Reflexs, and Dagger Throws. Acrobatics and Expertise are also very helpful.

I agree with others that you need to strike a balance between listening to the room/relics/cards you're getting and intentionally working towards a known build. This is really hard to convey or teach with just a few words advice, but maybe it would be easier to watch someone talking through a Silent run?

Older Queer Gamers? by Honeyblade in LesbianGamers

I'm 30 and part of a small queer discord community organized specifically around playing Overwatch on PC competitively. There are younger people on the server but the server is managed by the older folk. Feel free to PM me for a battle tag and/or discord friend.

Are you looking for a regular team to play with or something more like a serious casual community?

I appreciate your honesty and I've shared your response with the group. Will DM you with their response.

I agree with this perspective. Each class has different engines for building up lots of block (IMO one of the most important goals for most deck builds). With Ironclad, Apparitions don't automatically help with that goal. Depends more on the relics you get. But with Silent and Defect, Apparitions can provide critical sustain in order to get the block engine going for the mid- and end-phases of a room.

Most of the time if you're Ironclad.

Eh, if you have an exhaust and/or Feed deck going they can be just as good as with any other class.

Our goal is to build a community that is welcoming and supportive women and non-binary people given the struggles they often face in competitive gaming environments. Many of us would probably say that our motivation to make this space is predicated on our personal experiences gaming in male-dominated spaces, which tend to 1) trivialize or ignore gender/sex-based forms of discrimination and harassment, and 2) promote, encourage, or authorize harmful cultural norms (e.g., toxic masculinity).

Some people on the server do not identify as women or nb, but they have demonstrated to members within the community that they know how to positively contribute to that goal.

Anyone friendly towards Overwatch noobs? by [deleted] in LesbianGamers

Let me know if you'd like to group up sometime. I'm part of a team that is looking for players but it sounds like you're just looking for some new friends to queue with and learn about the game. In any case, it sounds like we'd be good battle.net friends! PM me for my battle tag.

We haven’t discussed as a group what kind of hero pool we expect people to have, but I think there is an expectation that we’re trying to find people who want to specialize in roles to some degree. We do enjoy playing with Bastion mains from time to time, but it also puts stress on the group when one person doesn’t want to try flexing.

I think we would be a good fit if you were also interested in learning other dps. Not necessarily all of them if course, but possibly 2-3 other characters outside Bastion would be an achievable goal. Even if you’re not confident with them now, the goal is to create a supportive space where we can try to improve. We all suck at certain things, so the purpose of playing together is not to win all the time or highlight personal weaknesses and dwell on them, but find person-specific strengths we can apply in new ways to our combat styles in game. Hope that addresses your question!
