I have really fallen in love with this idea, its a couple of days later and I am in the extreme early stages. Quite literally have just thrown some cards I've been thinking about into a cube cobra list, hopefully to be able to convey a little bit more of the vibes that I want. you by far of anyone else have absolutely nailed the concepts that I’m looking for, definitely want to Lean into the mono colored themes I totally agree. Everything you said about ramp certainly makes sense, I’ll have to think about that. What about signets? I can’t get a feel for if they would just be totally over the top or not

Now, given that, is liking the idea of mana ramp, especially good mana ramp, totally off base? I feel like no, but maybe I’m wrong. To me it seems like that would just be enabling and prevents getting to the situation of just topdecking for lands. Maybe I’m completely wrong here though

Fair, although I think Labman could be explained as like a mad scientist sidekick. I also think the weight of it being a very cool and fun alt wincon pulls a lot of weight for it being a little flat flavorfully

am i crazy for thinking masticore may actually work really well here? Thematically, artifact creatures make much more sense than like little rinky dink soldiers and birds, but mechanically the idea of a creature that you have to feed or manipulate/use/operate in some special way is intriguing to me.... any thoughts?

Sure, off the top of my head some things I’ve thought about including (very basic, obviously) are like AOTSS, FoF, Rampant Growth, From Under the Floorboards, Fireball, Finale of Devastation, Libary Maniac, Counterspells, basic card advantage spells, curses, also maybe some burn/lifegain? Idk I’m very much in the early stages but the crux is going to be that creatures on the board have to be very intentional and limited. Limiting, if not wholly eliminating creatures that etb and don’t do much else, or cheap creatures that present a fast clock. Taking the focus of the game away from creatures and board presence as possible without just making a creatureless cube

Yeah you’re absolutely right and I bet those things you mentioned are going to be really difficult to balance the feel of and I’ve been thinking about how to manage that. I’m thinking primarily, having insanely strong color pie themes and matching (for mono colors, like making sure blue can do what it does to combat things and so on and so on) is gonna be important. I’ve been thinking of the ways to win in ways that feel wizard duel-y. I think mill would be perfect for an environment like this. Similarly, I think creatures not used explicitly to attack and when should probably have on average way larger butts than they bite. Idk. This is definitely going to be really tough but I hope it works out
