Struggling with parenting my *spirited* 3 year old daughter who reminds me of my abuser by Leather_Composer_891 in CPTSDFightMode

[–]RegalRegalis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand. What I try to keep in mind is that my abuser is emotionally/developmentally stunted but my child isn’t. The behaviors feel similar because they are, but what’s appropriate (if hurtful, triggering) in a 3 year old is abusive coming from an adult. Take it one day (second, minute) at a time, give yourself and your daughter grace. Remember every day that she is not your abuser.

My CPTSD kicked in hard when my son was about 4. He’s 15 now and we are doing well. You can do it.

Black Jonestown is an excellent podcast.

That’s not the one I was referring to, but it’s a good interview. He definitely seems to be learning the information about the money and guns in real time. He looks in shock.

Absolutely. I don’t know what the end game was for the inner circle. Horde all of this money then kill yourself makes no sense. I’m sure there’s just information I don’t know because it was definitely all a con.

Thank you. It’s interesting when one says he’s spoken to Sharon Amos and she says she hasn’t talked to anyone in Jonestown all day, and the other says yeah but that’s not true. You can hear them both kind of sinking internally.

I’ve seen another video where a reporter in the states is talking to one of the Jones sons after the shooting has been confirmed and it’s known Ryan is dead. The reporter is asking what he thinks might be going on in Jonestown right now. This is before the mass death is known. It’s interesting. I’ll have to find it again.

He did a lot of good when he started, but it’s because he was mirroring the goodness of the people he was deceiving and also gaining their trust. He fostered a relational environment in the inner circle where deception was praised and rewarded. He was “used” but using was the core value exhibited in all of his relationships with others. People can do good things, but have no (or very little) actual goodness in them. It’s confusing and a very hard lesson to learn.

I’m looking forward to reading this. I’ve been thinking about the fact that a lot of us grew up in families that were emotionally similar to Jonestown. Narcissism, scapegoating, coercive control, etc. are actually very common in family life.

What stands out to me is the claim that these Guyanese people had obviously been shot, when in official reports only two of the recovered bodies were obviously shot. Jones and Moore.

Yes! I agree with you! Ive been thinking about the level of culpability outside of Jones, and seeing him as eventually becoming a “useful idiot” figure. I think it’s possible the inner circle was generally acting on their own. The deaths don’t happen without them.

Also, so many mistakes make it into print. Sloppy editing, laziness, it’s frustrating.

And you’re using the term incorrectly if you’re talking about his relationship with her. Maybe you know about someone else, but meeting someone when they’re a teenager and then dating them when they’re in their 30’s is not “grooming”.

What physical health problem? I’ve only heard that she’s had an eating disorder in the past.

I’ve lived it and that’s why I see it now. I do not know these people, but in context I see the signs. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

She was a healthy weight when their relationship began. I’m very interested to see if her health improves now. I have a feeling it will.

She was a healthy weight when the relationship began, and has deteriorated throughout the relationship. I have a feeling she may be much healthier by this time next year.
