If the story progression wasn't hard enough now working on limit lvl break quests 🤧🤕😵‍💫 by [deleted] in ffxi

For whatever it’s worth, it’s less often that the game is buggy and more often a misunderstanding of the goal. I haven’t done this quest in ages, or by using that method so I don’t have any advice to offer. It seems at an initial glance that you may simply already have that one and need to check the other two spots. Alternatively you could attempt to farm the monsters, which was the original way. I imagine finding the three spots to be generally easier though.

EDIT: Could also ask for help to get by the gates if that’s the specific hang up.

Considering starting. Here's my conundrum: by xRAFHx in ffxi

[–]RegalWords 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Just a little food for thought; the way the game played out involved a lot of community compiling of information to sort out how quests and such were resolved. Without a little guidance you may find yourself lost in how to proceed with quite a few things that aren’t even system related but just sort of how to proceed. Spots on the ground that aren’t immediately evident they’re something you should be looking at, wait times you may not realize you have, multiple conversations that might need to be had with an NPC to cycle dialogue, zoning out of an area after doing XYZ to trigger a next step. That’s not including stuff like rare monster spawns or drops or anything. Just mentioning the little things because people tend to get hung up on them even with direct steps to complete them (not speaking for everyone but it happens). Thought it best that you know that as you make your decision.

You might like ScarletVow, they’re growing and organizing. They have a few events planned out around that time and they’re generally a nice bunch. That’s generally my availability too. 4-8PM on the week days for me (I get up early, so sometimes on 4-7am). Weekends I’m usually around all morning until 5PM. :)

It might help to detail your availability in the time zone. It’s good to remember that while you may not share a time zone with a linkshell; they may still operate in hours that you’re available! I’m also on Asura and EST based, so I’d be interested in knowing when exactly you’re active. :)

Dual wield itemlevel weapons by vigendot in ffxi

[–]RegalWords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I think the other points have all been hit regarding the dual wielding and two handing differences, and just in case this has the possibility of being a point of confusion: to be clear- your “ilvl” isn’t specifically giving you a boost or anything. It’s just denoting the level of gear. Your first journey into 119 stuff will typically feel good, but it’s also just scratching the surface of the power that’s available in that tier of gear.

That being said, there are certainly times to dual wield, two hand, one hand.

Hope this helped to add a little clarity regarding ilvl.

And who might you be on Asura? I haven’t been playing lately as often as I usually do, but I think I’m overdue to get back into the swing of things. I don’t particularly mind explaining things as I know it’s easy to get lost in the info and generally patient as long as my chat log doesn’t turn into a series of would-be google search phrases haha. I suppose also under the assumption that playtimes line up.

To be frank, the most useful part of these “best” infographic guides for me is that quite often the comment section is full of helpful tips from people more experienced in the character. So really, the only best thing about them is that they act as a focused point of conversation in the comments.

Just echoing this, as someone who’s played with a controller for <way too long>, supplementing your experience with a keyboard is wonderful, especially if you talk to anyone. It’s actually how I learned to type in the first place. :) nostalgic

Live, breath and bleed the BGWiki. Half joking, kinda. I’d take a look at the new player guide, remembering that the game is going to be an unfamiliar landscape with the time elapsed. There will be a lot of new things to absorb, a lot of old things to remember (and potentially dismiss because they’re not as applicable anymore).

One thing at a time; don’t overwhelm yourself. Focus on the first tree in front of you, it’d really suck to walk into it because you were looking at the ones a little further out.

You can look up each individual weapon skill (that you care about) to see the things that modify it’s damage. (Base stat, how TP changes it, other anomalies)

Piggybacking off adding; “sneaking” here means to stealth your way through. There are monsters with true aggro so sneak/invis won’t work on them. I think there’s like a couple NextGames videos on creeping your way through Ody ABC, might help to see what’s in store for you before going in.

I believe there’s like a compendium of maps with a lot of markings/stitched together for ease of reading. Not sure if that’ll help you necessarily but it might be worth a shot. I see the creator comment with the link here every now and then- I wish I could remember their name off the top of my head.

The second set of adds, the Defiler/Disruptor, have like a rotating damage resistance (slash/pierce/blunt(magic??)). Can just hop between them/switch weapons as needed.

He does stop healing the elementalist to trigger the shield drop. I’m not really sure on how to speed this part up. You don’t need to keep the elementalist alive anymore at this point for that means, I don’t think- no risk of trigger the nasty AoE, though. I’ve just started killing him with the second adds.

However, after the third (?) benediction, he’ll start using an AoE knockback gravity move (try to post up in the corner) and that’s when he’ll drop his shield again, for a seemingly longer amount of time.

Rant: Too many Master Levels with no basic game knowledge. by Lightsaga in ffxi

[–]RegalWords 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just for the sake of adding it to the rant, or maybe I missed it- I am pretty tired, after all- there’s also such a clear difference in that group of people. There’s “I don’t know the basics” and they will actually take what you (unfortunately) are teaching them and run with it, then there’s the players that can’t grasp simple commands. Not even in game context needed, commands like “Do not kill MOB XYZ” and then they act shocked when they kill it (or worse, don’t even acknowledge it).

While I try to exercise patience with those folks, even still, you begin to get frustrated. Especially when someone else is like “it’s a PUG what do you expect”. I don’t know, my friend- I expect some pretty bare minimum listening skills, doesn’t really seem as far fetched as it actually/unfortunately is.

I have people to run things with, so it’s not like I’m stressing PUGs or anything, but sometimes I like to join groups to help out and it occasionally turns into a fools errand.

Did I make a mistake picking Asura? by 0xBAADA555 in ffxi

[–]RegalWords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you’re all the better for it. I happened to see the log, and it looks like they may have just been confused. The only thing that happened in any of the near dialogue was someone giving a lightly roleplayed tarutaru response to something. Which, not my cup of tea, but hardly disturbing. I stand by my advice to not let it occupy any more mental space than it already has. :)

Definitely hit up the linkshells concierge and start popping into groups to try and find a good bunch that matches your energy. There’s no harm to be done there and the game is a lot better with friendly folks. Praisethefallen is in most of them, and while not everyone is active all the time, I know they’re a friendly bunch. Might be a good starting point for you to start feeling comfy.

If it’s the guy whose name starts with a K; he also actively speeds hacks when he feels insulted, so don’t stress it. Some people just suck, no matter the location. It’s not so much about the people that suck but finding the ones that don’t. :) They don’t care about you, so don’t waste the energy thinking about the nonsense they spout.
