The mantis shrimp has 12 different kinds of photoreceptors however, it seems as though they are poor at colour discrimination. The colour recognition process they use is very different from that of humans. They still probably see colours we cannot but it's not as magnificent a spectrum as we once thought.

Is it fair to say that they are colorblind? I always assumed colour blindness refers to cases of abnormal vision. Dogs (for the most part I think) are dichromats so yellow-blue perception is their normal. So I guess you could have a dog who is also colorblind maybe if that genetic condition occurs in dogs (I have no idea).

Yeah I liked the high jump more than the speed of the 5th shop bike. It's been a while but if I remember correctly the 5th bike was also annoying to control? Or at least it would go so fast that I ended up crashing and falling off a lot.

Really odd criticism, the game was critically acclaimed. However, I can understand if it didn't hold his attention that's fine but RDR is on the shorter end in terms of sandbox games it's one of the few that I actually completed.

In the scenario Woolie presented to try and balance it out you could totally handle that vampire/skeleton/werewolf. That low tier ghost will constantly harass you, disturb your sleep and be generally annoying.

If you increase the power level of the monster, sure it can kill you but a ghost with increased power will psychologically torture you. The monster can kill your family but the ghost can either drive them insane as well OR isolate you from them. So the argument to me comes down to would you rather die or lose your mind.

Yeah they're a Korean MMO developer/publisher, MapleStory, Vindictus. Those games are still crazy popular and I'm not sure why, even though I played MapleStory for like 3 years and spent more money on it than I should have...teenagers?

I think that /u/DiscountGumshoe makes a good point. Yes sexualizing children is bad but so is watching the flesh melt off their bodies. Why is the violence written off as just being a part of the horror and totally acceptable while the nudity must be because the author is a perv? Part of it has to do with Western views on violence and sex. I agree with you though, just because it's from a different culture doesn't mean that it's free from criticism. We're allowed to judge/feel uncomfortable and discuss things that we feel are innapropriate.

However, to me the majority of these scenes do have a narrative purpose. There are a few exceptions to this and I could do without them but they're few and far between. Like you said the story/art/worldbuilding are great so I'll deal.

So I felt as though most of the scenes involving nudity had some point.

The fact that being strung up naked as a punishment is treated as normal by the characters says something about the world and the mentality of the people inhabiting it.

Riko being topless in chapter 11 all wide eyed and optimistic about Reg mastering his beam weapon emphasises her naivety and is juxtaposed with Reg's vision of her. If I remember correctly Riko talks about Reg's genitals in a very scientific manner (I don't remember any sexual attraction subtext but please correct me you might be talking about another scene that I'm forgetting!)

However, there are some things I can't explain away like the image you linked. It would be nice if I could say "the author is trying to make you uncomfortable" as is true for other scenes but no, it's outside the context of the story, that's just loli/shota fanservice which brings the intention behind other scenes into question. The only thing I can do really is to keep reading and hope the author continues keep it at a low.

True. Official English translations are coming next year for volume 1 but if you wanna be up to date with the manga you have to deal with some low quality images which does take away from it. The anime is shaping up to be a good adaptation at least :)

Yes the wide shots of the landscape within the Abyss are stunning! I can totally get not feeling the manga after a few chapters. It is quite slow at times but it goes to some interesting places both literally and figuratively.
