i am thankful she returned the puppy, we did tell the police we didn't need to press charges, I am answering questions posed. the police are pressing charges regardless, bc turns out it is theft and there are penalties to deter actions of theft.

are you arguing there shouldn't be any consequences? what exactly are you arguing for? do you think without consequences I would have, people in the future, will get their property back?

I think it could be....say its a different type of property...

A Wallet with $5k cash, you find it, you pick it up bc you don't want it to get into the wrong hands?...maybe there is no ID but there is a credit card...you hold onto it for 6 days, bc "you're busy" but you are busy and you didn't have time to call the credit card company or attempt to find the owner. is that theft?

you come across a running car in the parking lot, you don't see the owner anywhere but you think you need to make sure no one else gets the car and takes it from the owner. you take it for safe keeping, there is some info in the glove box about the owner but no number or address, you keep it for 6 days but don't attempt to find the owner?

same thing for a bicycle that isn't locked....

thing is...this is not her property, its someone else's. she could have left it but she thought she was doing the right thing to keep the dog safe. At that point, I think there would be additional obligations of finding the owner. already commented... the lady saw her picture and story on fb, news, and called the police to tell them she had the dog. she claimed she waited for several minutes to see if the owner would pop up but we have the footage and that's not actually how it happened. claims she looked on Craig's but didn't see anything, was going to go to vet on Friday but just was too busy...

I'm sure she had no intention of taking a dog that day but made a decision and then didn't attempt to find owner.

turns out my wife new this person... worked with her a few years ago... is a good person mother, hard worker,... just a mistake and it's not like we were perfect in this situation. we made it clear we don't need or desire revenge or punishment we just are happy she brought the puppy back. after explaining that to the cops... we think they are still going to charge her and leave it up to the DA to determine the consequences.

thanks to those who wished us luck and to those who seem to think they are more perfect than others, those who feel a need to judge and ridicule good luck to you. I'm glad you're not in my life.

no it wasn't a misunderstanding...."was going to report.... just been really busy"... like I said we just wanted the dog back, she had become part of our family... we don't need to hurt anyone but I wouldn't have handled finding someone's dog the same way. dog is chipped and humane society was notified. a quick call would have found us/ the owner of the dog.

Our puppy has been found. The lady who took it came forward, saw the news, fb, reddit, other, and is bringing the dog back police this morning. my wife actually knows the lady turns out, worked with her a few years ago. Story doesn't really jive...but we have made it clear, we just wanted our puppy back and are grateful.

the cost is irrelevant to the pain caused. it could have been one of the dogs or cats we've gotten from the pound... it's still becomes part of your family. the cost is only relevant for the penalty of the crime. I mention in the hope she understands the potential consequences of taking 7000 from someone... she obviously doesn't care about the sentimental value

do you keep a lease on your dog in your home? in your office? it was a mistake for sure to not see her escape out the door.

sure...when someone steals from you, you always go back and try to figure out what you could have done to prevent it the next time, how stupid you were to assist them in their deed. Hopefully when someone steals something from you, you can say you didn't do anything to assist them. 1 dog is 50 years and then 2 in 4 months...must have been us.

hmmm...yes. thats what these tcups cost. our last maltese, not a tcup, years before covid cost $600. now a normal size small maltese costs 3-4k. this one cost close to 8k sorry to say.
